Come See What Makes Us So Special
OLDEST AMERICANS BRUNCH
JSL Prentis resident, Miriam "Ruth" Goldstein and her family, including her niece, Gilda Jacobs, former House of Representatives for Michigan.
Today the Jewish community came together to honor a special group of people, 95 and older, at the Bessie Spector Oldest Americans Brunch! Over 300 attendees dined and danced to the jazzy beats of the Dave Bennett Trio at Shaarey Zedek. It was a day we surely won't forget.

THE BEST TIME IS NOW
Arthur Lipsitt, of blessed memory, (1900-1994) happily resided at Borman Hall for almost twenty years. In his lifetime he penned more than 400 poems – starting at the age of fifteen until just before he died. As a poet and a writer, he used words to express his deepest thoughts and his perceptive observations of life, as a young person, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a resident of the Jewish Home for Aged. He had a positive attitude toward living. He was an inspiration to many and we share one of his thoughtful poems with you this week:

Why wait until tomorrow
To tell someone you care?
For beyond the dawn tomorrow
You may not find them there.

Let others know you love them
So there is never a doubt
The best time is now, my friend
To try and work things out.

If you keep your love a secret
It cannot multiply
For love, when it's neglected
begins to slowly die.

Go, hug your wife and children
Go shed a happy tear
And love will pay grand dividends
Each day throughout the year.

A MEANINGFUL PERFORMANCE
Fleischman Residence had a special visit Wednesday from a wonderfully talented volunteer, Reid Smith, the grandson of our former resident, Barbara Benjamin. Reid just celebrated his bar mitzvah and it was really meaningful to him, and to all of us, that he share his musical abilities with the residents of the Memory Care Pavilion on what would have been his grandmother's 82nd birthday.

TRANSFORMING LIVES: GENERATION TO GENERATION
By Aryeh Gamer
This year, I was honored to be part of Dor L’Dor. I have had an excellent time with Jewish Seniors doing things together like Bingo, a Tu Bishvat seder, celebrating Passover, and making Matzah. Spending time with the seniors, I have made a connection with them and learned from them to always persevere.

Personally, I think that stories are a very important part of connecting with others. To learn the stories of your elders is to know yourself. I find it wondrous, to sit next to a man or woman, that lived their childhood in fear because others didn’t like their religion. In school, we learn many stories about the Holocaust, and other difficult times for Jews, but hearing the story personally from ones who have experienced this horror, is when I realize that we are connected as Jewish people, even though we have never met before.
