Dear Panther Parents,
 
WOW!  I am so impressed with our Panthers these first 2 days of school.  The 6th graders are already settling in and making their way around the building nicely, and our returning students are being good role models for our newbies.  Even our carpool peeps are doing an amazing job following procedures!  Simply best start ever! 
 
There is an updated dress code in the Student Handbook, along with other pertinent information such as cell phone policy.  We will begin enforcing dress code next week, and we appreciate your help with this effort.  Some common items we see are holes in the jeans, bandanas and head scarfs, hoodies over the head, sagging and leggings worn without a shirt long enough to cover.  Holes need to be at or below the knee or jeans need to be worn with leggings underneath.  Bandanas and hair scarfs are not allowed.  Hoodies can't be pulled over student's head.  No sagging.  Leggings are not pants ...shirt needs to cover front and back to fingertip length.  Please keep these things in mind while back-to-school shopping. 
 
A few things to know about cell phones: cell phones should not be visible while in classrooms.  They can be used in the cafeteria and hallways.  If students have them out in the classroom, the teacher is permitted to take up the phone and turn it in to the office.  The first time is a warning and the phone can be picked up by the student, but the next time is a $15 charge to pick up the phone.  Also, earbuds are ok in the cafeteria and hallways as well, but also need to be out of sight when in classrooms.  At no time should music or other sound come from a child's cell phone where others can hear it.  Cell phones do not need to be taken to PE because students do not have lockable lockers.  Please also note that taking pictures or videos of ANYTHING/ANYONE in a place of privacy (restrooms, locker rooms, etc) is against the law.  Our coaches talk to students about this, but please make sure to reiterate this to your child.  These offenses are turned over to our SRO. 
 
Don't forget to join the best PTO in town (see their portion of the newsletter below).  Our PTO is also doing their "Check Writing Campaign." It is a small contribution that has big payoff for our students.  This fundraiser goes directly back to our students by providing funds for our 8th grade Celebration, IMPACT Celebration at the end of the year, Teacher grants, and much more.  Thanks in advance for investing in our Panthers!
 
For 6th only: Please see nurse updates often for shot information and for screenings that are mandated by federal/state.  6th graders will need to get age specific shots this year in preparation for 7th grade.

*Progress Reports and Report Cards can be viewed and printed from the  Home Access Center (HAC) and will not be mailed or sent home with students. This is in an effort to be more earth-friendly. If you are unable to access HAC, please let the AP secretary know and we will send home a paper copy with your student.

We still have some leftover school supply packets for anyone withing to purchase.  The price of the packet is $43, and the required binder is $8.

NEW Design for Spirit Wear 

Our new design AND new color for our 2019-2020 Evans t-shirt are available now!  We're excited to announce that we are also creating online ordering capabilities so that students can choose other apparel (like sweats, hoodies, etc.) with the Evans logo. Please watch for more information at a later date.

Welcome Back!
We are ready and excited to accept donations of non-perishable foods so we can restock our Evans Food Pantry.  You can drop off items at the front office, or various other designated spots throughout the campus.  Let's start this year off strong!!

HEALTH CONCERN? If you are a parent of a student with a health concern, please make sure you complete the health history form, and also contact me in the clinic directly! Thank you for updating this vital information every year.
 
GOT MEDS?
    
MEDICATION AT SCHOOL: Please keep in mind that MISD has a
No Tolerance policy regarding medication possession. Students are not to carry medication of any kind at any time (except inhalers/epi-pens with specific written MD and parental consent). All medications administered at school must be brought to the clinic by the parent or guardian, stored in the clinic and the MISD medication administration form completed.
  • All medications are to be stored in the nurse's office with the exception of certain prescribed inhalers for the treatment of asthma.
  • All medications must be stored in the school clinic in the original container clearly labeled with the student's name.
  • All prescription and non-prescription medications taken during the school day must have a corresponding MISD Medication Form signed by the parent. Prescription medication will also need a doctor signature.

Health Screenings will include:


ALL 7th graders for Vision/Hearing/AN. We will start those screenings in September.
All 8th graders will get screened for scoliosis, probably starting in October.
 
  Lost Glasses - will be turned into the clinic and kept here. If your student ever loses their glasses remind them to check here.

Do you shop at Kroger? Evans Middle School PTO is now enrolled with Kroger's Community Rewards program. If you already have a Kroger Rewards Card, log in to your account at www.kroger.com and then click Enroll. You can search for Evans Middle School PTO or enter our code, AF012. New users will need to create an account, which requires some basic information, a valid email address, and a Rewards Card. You must have a registered Kroger Rewards Card account to link it to our school. If you don't have a card, they a
re available at the customer service desk at any Kroger. Then each time you shop at Kroger, swipe your card or use the phone number related to your card. Then PTO will take the proceeds to help our students and staff!

We are so lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers who make it possible for us to make our school the very best it can be!  Please remember that if you are a returning volunteer, or maybe a first time MISD volunteer, that you must go online to fill out a Volunteer Application and be approved before you can serve in any capacity where you will have contact with students.  Sometimes this takes a couple of weeks, so please do it as soon as possible!  We need you!!!

      SCHOOL SAFETY     
      
A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the uniform classroom response to any incident. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by all McKinney ISD schools and District Administration and staff. Historically, schools have taken this scenario-based approach to respond to hazards and threats. Each McKinney ISD classroom is furnished with the Standard Response Protocol poster that provides teachers with readily accessible response procedures and provides information during a crisis event. The attached handout explains Standard Response Protocol that is taught to students, faculty and staff.

   STUDENT FOOD DELIVERY     
      
Due to a variety of safety concerns related to food allergies and campus safety and security,  McKinney ISD will no longer allow students to utilize food delivery services at school. This includes services such as Uber Eats, Doordash and direct restaurant delivery. However, parents/guardians will still be permitted to drop food off for their children.
  
This rule does not apply to deliveries organized by McKinney ISD faculty or a teacher serving as a sponsor of a student organization. We appreciate your cooperation in our efforts to create a safe and secure environment for students.
