250th Visitor Readiness Assessment Study Results highlighted during Annual Meeting

The visitor readiness assessment of New Jersey's Revolutionary-era historic sites was released as part of Crossroads of the American Revolution's April 24 Annual Meeting. Held online due to New Jersey's COVID19 social distancing mandates, the 90 minute session was hosted by Crossroads Board President Ira Jersey and Executive Director Janice Selinger, with more than 100 participants logging in.

Following a brief update on Crossroads' 2019 community outreach, education and development results, the Visitor Readiness assessment team shared key findings of the yearlong study. Presenters included John D.S. Hatch of architecture, and historic planning firm Clarke Caton Hintz, Cheryl Hargrove of strategic planning and tourism marketing firm Hargrove International, and Patricia Madrigal of cultural resources consultants Hunter Associates.

Their findings and recommendations include a broad estimate of costs to prepare the state's sites, suggested heritage tourism themes and the market potential of the sites assessed in the study.

Visit our website to download an executive summary of the findings, plus the full report, supporting appendices and list of assessed sites and their market potential.
Online Resources bring Revolutionary New Jersey home!

We're all missing visits to our favorite Revolutionary New Jersey sites during the COVID-19 outbreak, but many are offering ways to learn their stories and make learning fun and interesting.

For example, the Old Barracks invites you and your students/kids to... Ask The Barracks!  Send in questions about the soldiers who fought in the Revolution, what life was like in Trenton during wartime, what people wore... you name it, and you might get a video response!

If you were part of the 1779-80 Morristown encampment and had today's tools, how would you report on your experiences? Check out Morristown National Historical Park's multimedia album to create your own encampment diary or letters home.

Liberty Hall Museum offers a host of online resources to bring 250 years of history, games and more to life, from lesson plans to puzzles, coloring pages and more.
