Common Council
Council provides City staff and the public their decision on several key items during a Special Common Council Meeting

Several important decision were decided by the Common Council at a Special Common Council meeting Monday, June 1, 2020 at City Hall.

  • The Common Council voted 9-1 during Monday night's Special Common Council Meeting at City Hall to close Hefko Pool for the summer of 2020. The decision was made to save the operational cost and move forward with plans to expedite (to the greatest degree possible) the timeline for construction of the new aquatic center, anticipated to open in June 2021.

  • The Senior Center is now open for senior programs/activities inside the Community Center.  District 1 Alderperson Mike Feirer expressed concern for the safety of the seniors and while it was agreed to remain open by the Council, it was also agreed that reasonable precautions should be followed and posted at the center.

  • This year’s July 4th fireworks display is moving forward with a few change because of COVID-19 pandemic. The grandstands will be closed to the public, and no food stands, “bounce houses”, DJ, etc. will be permitted on the premises. After some discussion, it was agreed to allow the public restrooms to remain open. The Fireworks are provided by Festival Foods and the City provides the venue for the celebration.

  • The fourth item on the agenda was agreed to make no changes to how public meetings are being conducted.  This discussion centered around whether we should strive to have every participant there in person, but those who are not comfortable doing so may continue to take part remotely through our Zoom and conference call arrangements.
150 Days to complete Census forms

As we enter the month of June it is important to keep in mind that there are only 150 days remaining after June 3 until October 31. Why is that date important? Because on October 31 the efforts to have everyone complete their census survey will come to an end.

It is important that we work together for these last 150 days to remind everyone how important it is that they be counted and how valuable an accurate count is for your community, county and State. You have already put a great deal of effort into motivating the members of your community to complete the survey (this is reflected in the fact that Wisconsin continues to rank second in the nation for self-response). Your commitment to the Census process is greatly appreciated.

Speaking of the "process", while about 97% of Wisconsin residents had their survey delivered by USPS. The next step will be Census staff visiting each residence where a survey has not been returned. This is the process that will continue until October 31, 2020.
