In 1833 Greene County was founded and one of the first orders of business was to establish a Circuit Court. There was no courthouse so proceedings were held in log cabins and homes. That is the backdrop for the long-forgotten story of a black woman named Milly Sawyers. In 1834, Sawyers filed suit in Greene County for her freedom. And she won. This program concludes with a panel discussion including Chief Justice George Draper and the Honorable Patricia Breckenridge from the Supreme Court of Missouri.
