PARC@Home
Cornelius PARC is bringing the programming to you!

We know you're cooped up - it seems like everything is closed or canceled, and you're at home - so what now? Your friends at Cornelius PARC are on a mission to bring you ways to keep busy, stay engaged, decompress, and maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit.
Keep Moving
We believe that parks are essential, now more than ever! All Town of Cornelius parks remain open at this time, including Bailey Road, Legion, Robbins, Smithville, Torrence Chapel, and Wilhelm. However, we can only keep the parks open if YOU practice social distancing - that is, a physical distance of at least six feet. That means no doubles, no groups, no shared equipement unless among immediate family sharing the same household. Please, we need your help so we can keep our parks open!

Note that all Mecklenburg County Parks are open for use but closed to vehicular traffic. You can walk in or bike in, just not drive in. In Cornelius, affected parks include Jetton Park, Ramsey Creek Park, and Blythe Landing.

Learn Something New
April is National Lawn and Garden Month, and this Wednesday, April 14, is National Gardening Day, so what better time to get your hands in the dirt and learn something about nature along the way? To that end, KidsGardening.org has dozens of garden projects and plant- and garden-themed crafts and activities for all ages! Take your family's science class outdoors this week!
Make Your Own Fun
Sure, kids love to color, but did you know that for adults, there may be benefits such as improving mood, enhancing mindfulness, and reducing mental health stress? We found this great site with free, downloadable coloring sheets from the pretty simple to the very complicated. We're hoping that everyone at your house will find something there to enjoy. Get out your crayons, colored pencils, or markers and ready, set, color!

Get in My Belly!
If you're like so many other people staying home these days, you've been on a baking streak. But what happens when you're out of an ingredient because the store shelf is empty, or maybe you're avoiding trips to the store except for emergencies? Never fear, we found a list of pantry substitutes at MyRecipes.com that will keep you moving forward. BONUS: When we scrolled further down that same webpage, we found a recipe for " Thicccck Chocolate Chip Cookies " and we're not mad!

In times of crisis we learn the value of community. Please consider our local restaurants, both the business owners and the many affected employees! Order for carry out or delivery, or purchase gift cards for later use! Visit Lake Norman is maintaining a list of Lake Norman restaurants still operating and a link to their new Virtual Tip Jar.

We partner with the Smithville CommUnity Coalition and neighborhood volunteers to provide the Cornelius Community Garden, 20708 Catawba Ave. The garden has a few 4' x 8' garden boxes still available for rent. The fee is $50 ($25 may be refundable) and includes the raised bed, topsoil, access to tools, water and three growing seasons. You provide your own plants, seeds and labor!
