It's my first jazz effort as leader in over 12 years and captures a moment when I was fresh off a plane from winning my 2nd Emmy this past May (and therefore in a really good mood!) It also features some brand new compositions, as well as a re-recording of my piece "
For Don
" (originally written in memory of my mentor
Don Pullen
), now newly performed here in honor of another great mentor of mine who left us recently, baritone saxophonist
Hamiet Bluiett
(with whom I originally recorded the piece in duo form back on my Justin Time CD "Paired Down, Vol. I").
