MESSAGE FROM JENESSA AND MONIQUE
What we've been learning . . .
As a staff, our ENP team went to listen to Christena Cleveland speak at Fresno Pacific. She spoke on how we can follow Jesus's example and empty ourselves of our power and privilege for the sake of others (Philippians 2:5-8). She explains it better than we can, so you're welcome to listen more here
It got us thinking about the unique privilege that we all have to love on kids and teachers who look, think, and act differently than us... we really are blessed that Clovis, Fresno, and Orange Center Unified School Districts have opened the doors wide open. Praying we all will use that opportunity wisely.

Thank you for your hearts to serve, learn, and love. We are blessed to work with and learn from each of you!

"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."
Philippians 2:3-4

LITERACY MENTOR SPOTLIGHT
Vickie Alcaide
Vickie first volunteered this summer by helping us put together the literacy kits. Now she volunteers  4 days a week at Mountain View Elementary- wow! She has built great relationships with both the students and teacher. Thank you Vickie!
How did you hear about Literacy Mentoring and why did you join?
I found out about Literacy Mentoring actually by accident while searching the internet for volunteer programs available in Fresno.  I was particularly looking for an organization where I would be able to volunteer my free time helping children.  I had never heard of Every Neighborhood Partnership but soon discovered that this organization was a perfect fit for me.  As I read their website and learned about the Literacy Mentoring program I was hooked.  Being able to volunteer and share some of my time especially in the lives of children, I knew would be a very happy and rewarding experience for me, so I decided to join this wonderful organization.

What is your favorite part about Literacy Mentoring?
My favorite part about Literacy Mentoring are the wonderful, cute and energetic kindergarten children!  They are so sweet and just seeing their smiling faces and their excitement to meet with me is so heart warming.  I truly enjoy working one-on-one with the students helping them learn their letters and sight words.  It's so much fun helping 5 year old kids learn how to read and write!

What was your favorite book as a child?
I don't really remember a particular favorite book as a child however, I do remember my favorite TV show was called Big Blue Marble.  I liked watching this show because it was about real children all over the world doing real things in their daily lives.  Each weekly episode showcased a girl and a boy in separate segments.  The shows were always stories about an American family and an international family both with children of the same age.  It was very educational and as a kid I loved this show!

What do you hope for Mt View Elementary students?
I hope the students at Mt View Elementary have a very fun and very successful academic school year!

Who was an encouraging adult in your life as a child?
Both of my parents are the two people that encouraged me the most in my life as a child.  To this day they are still my greatest role models.  I learned from their example and I am truly blessed to be their daughter.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled... John 14:1

Letters and Sounds Video
At this point in the year, many of you are working with students who are still learning their letters and sounds. Watch this video for some ideas on how you can use your current kit supplies to help those students.
