The annual White Coat Ceremony, held Friday for the 203 members of this year’s entering class of medical students, caps orientation week. Classes begin Monday.
As the basic medical sciences learning facilitator for the Georgetown Experimental Medical Studies (GEMS) program, Christopher Kaingo, MD, is called to "coat" several mentees at the White Coat Ceremony.
School of Medicine students led campers in basketball, soccer, jump rope, water balloon fights and roller skating at the HoyaMed Summer Sports Camp.
With a focus on humanitarian challenges around the world, NHS students met with Jesuit leaders to learn more about service and career programs and “create positive change.”
In collaboration with Biomedical Graduate Education (BGE), Georgetown's School of Continuing Studies (SCS) recently launched the Experiences in Biotechnology Academy.

American Academy of Nursing Recognizes Exceptional NHS Faculty Members
The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) recently recognized Mary Wakefield, visiting distinguished professor at NHS, as a 2019 Living Legend for demonstrating a lifelong commitment to transforming health care. In addition, Carol R. Taylor, PhD, RN, and Joyce M. Knestrick, PhD, FNP-BC, FAANP, were named as members of the 2019 class of Academy fellows. Wakefield, Taylor and Knestrick will be honored during the AAN annual policy conference this October.

New research has uncovered a mechanism thought to explain why some cancers don't respond to a widely used form of immunotherapy called "checkpoint inhibitors" or anti PD-1. In addition, the scientists say they have found a way to fix the problem, paving the way to expand the number of patients who may benefit from the treatment.
A research team, led by investigators from Georgetown University Medical Center and Fudan University in China, has devised a very promising non-invasive and individualized technique for detecting and treating bladder cancer.
