New Student Academy
New Students at Bishop Kelly for the 2019 - 2020 school year and their parents are encouraged to attend New Student Academy on Wednesday, August 14th.

Freshmen Students should report to the Cafeteria at 8:00 am.

New Students should report to the student commons in the Father Wilson Science and Technology Wing at 8:00 AM. School photos will be taken on this day, so ALL students attending New Student Academy need to be in regular dress code.

Parents of New Students , please plan to join us in the Carley Athletic Center (the big gym behind the main school building) for a family Mass at 8:30 AM

Following Mass students will begin their day. They will have their yearbook photo taken, connect their laptop to the BK network, learn about academic expectations, meet with their counselors and administrators, learn about ways to get involved at BK, etc. Students will be served lunch, and their day will concluded at 2:00 PM

Following Mass parents will have about 30 minutes with BK administration and staff for a high level "what you need to know to successfully start the school year" session. Parents will be finished around 10:00 AM.

We would like to get to know all of our new students better! Please send an email to Mr. Caldwell ( mcaldwell@bk.org ) that includes the following:

  • First and Last name of your student (and their nickname if that's what they like to be called.)
  • At least one unique/interesting thing about your student - the more unique or interesting the better. Make it memorable! But also make sure it's something I can share with their teachers, counselors, etc.
  • Your student's top 3-4 hobbies
  • The school your student is coming from

Please attach 2 photos of your student. One that clearly shows their face, and one that shows them doing something they enjoy.

VERY IMPORTANT TASK for NEW Students or students with NEW Computers

Beginning of the Year Tidbits
Class Change Requests
As typical this time of year, it is tempting to begin contacting counselors with class schedule questions and change requests. Schedules will be viewable online on or after August 7th. After that time, please note and communicate with your child that schedule changes will not be made based on preferences for one teacher over another. We work extremely hard in hiring and developing excellent teachers and although your child may like one teacher over another, we feel strongly that all of our teachers are more than qualified to teach the courses they are assigned. With that being said, our counselors will work hard to make the best schedule for each student and will make changes based only on bona fide academic needs, not based on teacher preferences.
School Supplies
Your student will typically have seven classes per day and each class may have specific expectations for supplies needed. Other than basic supplies such as three ring binders, loose leaf paper, pens, pencils and locker organizers, it is suggested that you wait until after your child receives the course syllabus on the first day of school to purchase any other school supplies other than a laptop. For information on laptop specifications and recommendations, please review our website on 1:1 Technology .

BK Cafeteria
BK Cafeteria

As you might be aware, we are in the midst of a long overdue kitchen remodel until late fall. This will create a temporary inconvenience in both cafeteria flow, capacity and food service. Please be aware that we will still be offering daily breakfast and lunch options through the cafeteria. Seating will be tight in the cafeteria this fall but other seating options will be available throughout the school during break and lunch. We will be closely monitoring flow and food service and will be ready to adjust and modify as needed while we are in this remodel.  To help expedite your student’s meal time, one of our new upgrades includes using your student’s ID badge to swipe for purchases at the registers .

The BK Cafe serves a delicious and nutritious breakfast and lunch each full school day. Weekly menus will be posted on Cafeteria Page of BK.org.

The mission of BKPA is to strengthen and encourage a sense of community at Bishop Kelly High School through parent engagement. BKPA will accomplish this by fostering an opportunity for parents to learn more about what they can do to help the school, support teachers, and provide a way to welcome and support new parents to Bishop Kelly.

The BKPA needs YOU!

Did you know that every parent or guardian of a current BK student is a member of the BKPA? We're focused on making this year the best possible experience for your student, and for you! Please mark your calendar for the first BKPA meeting of the school year:

Monday, August 12th
6:00 PM in the Multipurpose room at BK
(Right inside the front doors of the school)

There will be snacks, beverages, and lots of opportunities to meet new parents and ask questions of those who have been around a while. President Raimondi will be there to welcome us, and we will hold officer and committee chair elections for the new school year. Please help us get the year off to a great start by putting this meeting on your calendar now!
