Do You Know a Healthcare Game Changer?
University of Miami Health System Announces Newly Created Board of Directors
With a distinct eye on the future of healthcare, the University of Miami recently announced the formation of the UHealth Board of Directors, a panel of highly respected leaders who will provide strategic oversight to the University of Miami Health System.

The university is making this bold move to position UHealth to be more responsive to its overall mission to its patients, research and medical education. As healthcare evolves rapidly, healthcare systems must operate in an environment of thoughtful decision making that is nimble and adaptive to the market. Building this board, made up of experienced leaders in healthcare and business, creates a critical framework to guide the strategic vision of UHealth in order to serve better its patients and the community.

"It is imperative that we transform our academic health system to better realize its mission of providing high-quality care, both on its technical and its interpersonal dimensions," said University of Miami President Julio Frenk.

Copeland appointed PBSC nursing director

Dr. Copeland
Dr. Copeland
The national search for Palm Beach State College's (PBSC) nursing director has ended internally with the appointment of Dr. Deborah Copeland, a longtime professor with experience working in clinical roles as a practitioner and administrator. Copeland, who has been serving as interim nursing director since January, moved into the role permanently on Oct. 1. She replaces Buddy Herrington, who retired last year. As nursing director, Copeland oversees the Licensed Practical Nursing, Patient Care Assistant and the Associate in Science degree in Nursing programs. Together, the programs have nearly 600 students.

"I am excited about Dr. Copeland formally accepting the nursing director position. She is an extremely knowledgeable individual who is a champion for supporting both students and faculty," said Al Baldwin, dean of health sciences. "Her passion for excellence in the classroom and in the clinical setting makes her an asset in helping to further maintain our position as being the leader in preparing the next generation of nurses."

Prior to joining the PBSC faculty in 2000, Copeland worked in clinical roles and in quality management at S t. Mary's and Good Samaritan hospitals. Copeland holds an AS degree in nursing, bachelor's in general studies and a BSN from Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music. She also holds a MSN and a PhD in nursing from Barry University.

A standalone Urgent Care Center located at 1740 Sheridan Street, Hollywood, FL will open its doors on November 2 with extended hours seven days a week, online scheduling and skilled physicians to treat a variety of conditions. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for November 1st from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
