Over 450 Cyclists Bike the Brandywine

On Saturday, September 22 the sun made a special appearance and over 450 cyclists participated in Brandywine Conservancy's third annual Bike the Brandywine . The ride started at the Chadds Ford Historical Society between 7-9am and cyclists rode 25, 45, or 80 miles along the Brandywine Creek Greenway through scenic landscapes and natural areas.

Trail Stewardship Workshops

Brandywine Conservancy, Natural Lands, and Willistown Conservation Trust are partnering with Pennsylvania Equine Council to offer a one-day Trail Stewardship Workshop with two locations to choose from. This workshop will provide an opportunity for our community to learn sustainable trail layout, construction, maintenance, tool selection, and use. The morning session will be a presentation, and the afternoon will be a hands-on workshop where participants can implement and practice some of what the learned. The workshop is geared towards equestrian trail users, but many of the concepts taught are applicable for all sorts of trail enthusiasts, including hikers, bikers, and cross-country skiers.

VPA-HIP Grant Opportunity

The Voluntary Public Access-Habitat Improvement Program (VPA-HIP) is part of the PA Farm Bill and it pays 100% of the costs associated with habitat enhancement projects such as removing invasive plants, planting native grasses/wildflowers, planting native trees and shrubs, installing deer exclosure fences, etc. The main requirements are that the property not be state or federally owned and it needs to either be enrolled or become enrolled in the state's Hunter Access program for a minimum of ten years. Right now the state is looking for new projects for the next round of grant funding. Click here for more information on the VPA-HIP program.

Brandywine Conservancy staff may be able to provide technical assistance to landowners that wish to submit a VPA-HIP grant proposal. Email [email protected] to discuss potential projects and/or request technical assistance.
