Speaker, Whitney Capps, Talks with Students About Living in God’s Strength
|

As part of the Distinguished Speaker Series, Prince Avenue Christian School hosted national speaker and writer Whitney Capps.
Whitney is a speaker for Proverbs 31 Ministries and a writer for the new Bible app, First 5, with more than 1,000,000 downloads and users. Whitney's first book (B & H Publishers) and Bible study with video curriculum (LifeWay) will be released in early 2019. Whitney is married to Chad, and they have four sons that are students at Prince.
Whitney challenged the popular notion that students can be anything they want to be in life. She shared that God’s Word teaches them the opposite, that no amount of desire or ambition can get them where they want to be in life. Instead, she explained, they could only be in God’s will. “Don’t build your life around what you can do. Build your life on the One who will work through you.” Whitney went on to say, “If you use your strengths, even if it is for God’s glory, it will fail. It has to be God using your strengths.” Whitney based her teaching on Exodus Chapter 3 in which God reveals His purpose to Moses.
The Distinguished Speaker Series is a pillar of the Prince Avenue Christian Character Development Program. As a follow-up to Whitney's talk, students will split into discussion groups facilitated by faculty and respond to questions relating to Whitney's presentation.

Prince Students, Parents, Faculty, and Staff Gather for Prayer for See You at the Pole

On September 26th, Prince Avenue students, faculty, staff, and parents gathered at 7 am for a special time of prayer for See You at the Pole. The prayer time was opened by high school Bible teacher Brandt Akin and followed by those attending.
See You at the Pole, the global day of student prayer, began in 1990 as a grass roots movement with ten students praying at their school. Twenty years later, millions pray on their campuses on the fourth Wednesday in September.

Prince Holds Annual Honor Induction Ceremony

Prince Avenue Christian School recently held its annual Honor Induction Ceremony in which students in middle and high school were inducted into the National Art Honor Society, International Thespian Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, National Beta Club, and National Honor Society. Students participated in the society pledges and received pins and certificates for their respective organizations. The evening concluded with special music by Tri-M Music Honor Society members.

Lunch and Learn Speaker, Kaitie Bryant,
Explains Principles of Design

Prince high school students enjoyed a presentation from Kaitie Bryant about principles of design. The presentation was part of the high school Lunch and Learn program in which special guests come and share about their work with high school students.
Mrs. Bryant graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in History and a minor in Philosophy. She currently works as a photographer. She discussed the use of design in photography and on websites and reminded students that while they may use concepts of design, God is the ultimate creator. Mrs. Bryant also explained the different platforms in which design is used such as interior design, computers, and branding.

Second Grade Students Observe
Patriot Day on 9/11

Second-grade students in Mrs. Padgett's class learned about patriotism and heroes on 9/11. Students read the book
The Man in the Red Bandana
, discussed the definitions of heroes and patriots, and made a Patriot Day booklet. Mrs. Padgett concluded this special day by giving each child an American flag to take home.

Community Helpers Visit Kindergarten Students
|
|
As a part of a unit of study on community helpers, Prince kindergarten students enjoyed visits from Mr. Luke Marden, a firefighter and dad of student Logan Marden, as well as linemen from Walton EMC who brought their bucket truck. Both visitors shared their jobs and helped students to understand the importance of fire safety and safety with electricity.

Enjoy Mystery Reader

Students in Prince pre-kindergarten classes recently enjoyed a special guest as their mystery reader. Lower School Principal Becky Callaway surprised the children as the "Cat in the Hat". She read the children the story
Green Eggs and Ham
before the children enjoyed a snack made of, you guessed it . . . green eggs and ham. It was a time of great fun for everyone!

On September 25th, The Prince Avenue Christian School Fine Arts Department presented Fine Arts Night in the Prince Avenue Baptist Church Worship Center.
The evening included performances by Advanced Band, Middle School Performing Arts, Voices of Prince, and Lower School Music 2nd Graders. In addition, pieces of art from all school levels were on display.

Cross Country Team Makes Training
Fun with Banana Relay
|

This fall, the Prince Avenue Cross Country team held its inaugural "Five Mile Banana Relay". The relay involved twelve five-person teams that were comprised of middle and high school runners, parents, and coaches. Each team had to complete five laps around the cross country course (one lap per person). Instead of handing off a baton, the runners handed off a banana. After the race, the participants were treated to banana splits.
The winning time was 39:00 minutes by a group with only four runners, so one of them ran two laps. This fun event kept training exciting and was a great way for parents to participate in helping the team.

In 1987, Ronald Reagan proclaimed the week of October 4th as National Yearbook Week. His proclamation states, “School yearbooks not only chronicle educational achievement and school tradition but are a part of them. For nearly two centuries American students have produced yearbooks to commemorate the accomplishments of the school year and to compose a lasting record, written and pictorial, of campus, classmates, teachers, and school staff."
Many thanks are extended to Prince Avenue’s middle and high school yearbook staff who have consistently published professional, creative, and newsworthy publications year after year in order to document and commemorate our wonderful school.
