St. Michael's Academy
 :

Despite our short week with the holiday on Monday, we had a strong academic work week! As I walked by the classrooms, I heard great conversations, great topics being covered and a nice rhythm between students and teachers.

In just three weeks, we will be having our first round of parent/teacher conferences. We will be sending home appointment times on October 22nd and Mrs. Cullen, our guidance counselor, will be coordinating these appointments.

We have finally been blessed with some fall weather. It sounds like it will be a great weekend to be outside and enjoy the beautiful gift of fall. God certainly knows how to color our world!

God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal

SAFETY

PLEASE - SAFETY FIRST!!

We had a close call today during drop off where a child could have been easily hit by a car. Thankfully, the parent saw the situation about to enfold and stopped the child.

We cannot stress enough how important it is to follow our drop-off and pick-up policies. Even when following the rules, dangerous situations can still happen.  PLEASE be aware of your surroundings and drive slowly! We all have places that we need to be but safety should ALWAYS take priority.

Perfect Attendance

Good Attendance Pays Off !

Congratulations to our perfect attendance dress-down winners! In order to qualify for the weekly drawing, a student must have no absences, tardiness or early dismissals the previous week of school. We select one from PreK - 2nd grade, one from 3rd - 5th grade and one from 6th - 8th grade.  Congrats to this week's winners and one from a previous week!

PreK-4C Shines

The preschool students in PreK4 C have been wonderfully settling in to their new school routine! They have been hard at work learning how to walk in a line, sit crisscross-applesauce, and raise their hands to answer questions. They have also been busy learning their letters, numbers, and prayers, as well as many other important topics!

During the month of September, the students learned the prayer "The Hail Mary". They have been very excited to be able to recite this prayer along with the rest of the student body as we pray a decade of the rosary each morning during our October morning announcements!

Dress Down

School Picture Dress Down Day

We had many pretty and handsome students in the school today! Not that we don't always but today was dress down (or dress up!) for school picture day.  We couldn't resist but snap a few pictures!

 Coming Next Week

Trunk or Treat

Next Thursday, October 18th, is Trunk or Treat!  Grab your scariest costume (and your parent) and head to the SMA parking lot between 5:30 and 7 p.m.  All students must be accompanied by a parent.

The cost of admission is only one bag of candy per child or $5 if you don't have time to shop.  Either of these should be sent in before Thursday so we can have candy ready for our trick or treaters.  We have sent home sign-up sheets for decorated cars and volunteers for the activities in the gym.

Don't miss a howling good time!

Free Concert

"Viva Italia" Concert

Two musical works, relatively unknown in America, will be among the selections at the "Viva Italia" concert at St. Michael's Cathedral on State Street in Springfield on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.

The evening will include a mixture of rarely heard pieces including a sonata for trumpet and strings by Galuppi Baldassare and a concerto for two oboes by Antonio Vivaldi. The featured work will be the Jubilate et Gloria of Vivaldi with choir and soloists. In addition, the cathedral choir will be singing what may be the first complete American performance of Psalm 19, I Cieli Immensi (The Heavens Declare), for chorus and strings by Bendedetto Marcello.

The cathedral choir is a semi-professional, working choir that is constantly performing and learning new music because of the needs of the cathedral. It includes several current and past St. Michael's Academy boys!

The event is free and open to the public.
