Introducing Ms. Melanie Chambers
We are delighted to announce that Session has approved the appointment of Ms.
 Melanie Chambers as the new Chancel Choir Director for Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church.
Melanie holds a Bachelor of Arts (BM) in Music Education with Vocal Concentration from Rutgers University - Mason Gross School of the Arts (May 2016), where she was in the Dean's List every year, acknowledged as a Rutgers Trustee Scholar (2012-2016) and recognized as a National Merit Scholar from 2011 to 2016. Since August 2016 she has been the Choral Director for Highland Park High School and Middle School, where she directs all choral activities including responsibilities for the music for the Spring musical. From 2014 to 2016 she served as the Music Coordinator for the Livingston Theater Company and since 2016 she has been the Associate Conductor of the New Jersey Chamber Singers.
Melanie has freelanced as a soprano section member and soloist for different churches and ensembles for the last several years. She has also sung with our choir on several occasions, including being featured as a soloist in a presentation of Handel's Messiah and, just this month, at the service honoring our past Choir Director William R. Shoppell, Jr.
Melanie will be seen in her new role on October 28, when the Chancel Choir is next scheduled to participate in worship on Reformation Sunday. Make sure to greet Melanie during Coffee Hour that day.

Open House at the Manse During Coffee Hour 
Pastor Osy and his wife Juli are graciously hosting coffee hour this Sunday at the Manse.
Please stop over and enjoy some special apple treats their family has prepared as well as getting to know them and their family.
The Manse Open House will be immediately after the service. All are welcome!

Pastor Appreciation Sunday 
October 14th is Pastor Appreciation Sunday. We are blessed and delighted to have Pastor Osy leading us as our Interim Pastor.
As a way to show your appreciation for Pastor Osy, cards and notes can be brought to church this Sunday as your way of saying thank you for his dedicated Interim Pastoral leadership. There will be a brown basket in the Narthex (main entrance) to collect the cards and notes brought this Sunday. If you are not able to be with us this Sunday, please hand-carry/mail your card/note to him at your earliest convenience.

Appointments with Pastor Osy During the Week 
Each week Pastor Osy has his schedule posted on his office door. If you have a pastoral concern and would like to make an appointment please sign your name in one of the available time slots. Evening hours are also available, on certain days, for those who are unavailable during the day. You can also call the church office to be scheduled in.

With Much Gratitude
I am still overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and appreciation shown to me on
 Sunday, October 7th. The enhanced choir that consisted of so many former choir members, members of the NJ Chamber Singers, members of the Monmouth Civic Chorus and my own wife and daughters and the incredible service in which Pastor Osy was able to make it all about me and still all about World Communion made me feel so honored.
Thank you to Sara and Pastor Osy for selecting the music that the choir sang. Thank you to the members of the Choral Bells for adding their ringing to the final hymn. Thank you Donna Wittmann, Jacque Thornton, PW ladies and all who made a delicious reception following the service.
The congregation's donation to a "purse" was most generous. Pat and I will let you know how that was utilized! Thank you to the Deacons for their generous donation. Thank you to the Session and personnel committee for the Emeritus designation, the naming of the choir room in my honor, and the wonderfully soft and warm robe!
Thank you to the Chancel Choir and Choral Bells who are donating funds for new music to be purchased in my name. Thank you to the Reilly family and Wilton-Pula family for the sanctuary flowers placed in my honor. Thank you for the two cherry crumb pies gift certificate...they are my favorite. Thank you to all who sent individual cards with kind words. I will always cherish the memories that I made with all of you during the past 36 years and will forever be so grateful for your continued love, support and prayers.

Presbyterian Women Fall Gathering 
Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church will be hosting the Monmouth Presbytery PW Fall Gathering on October 27th from 9 to 4 p.m. Lisa Gray PW Synod Moderator of the Northeast will be the guest speaker speaking on the theme of Knitting the Unity Together. Attendees are to bring a bag lunch. Coffee, tea plus other things will be provided.

Service of Remembrance - Sunday November 4th
An important element in the observance of All Saints is the offering prayers of thanksgiving in loving memory of members and friends of our church who have departed this life in the past year. Please call the church office or send us an
email with the names of people to be remembered during the Great Thanksgiving.

Operation Christmas Child - Shoebox Ministry of Samaritan's Purse
Look for the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Pamplet in the pew starting this Sunday. These red pamphlets contain the instructions and labels on packing a shoebox.
Additional pamphlets can be found in the office and narthex. Please include $9 for each shoebox to help with shipping costs. Checks can be made payable to Samaritan's Purse with a note on the memo line that the donation is for Operation Christmas Child. Place the sealed envelope (found in the Operation Christmas Child pamphlet) on top of the items inside your shoebox so it is clearly visible.
Shoeboxes will be dedicated on November 11th during our Sunday Service. Please have your box in before then. Boxes will then be brought to the distribution center so please don't delay in getting your box here by November 11th.

This Week in Sunday School -- "Stuff Can't Keep You Happy!"
 This week we continue our study of Contentment - "Deciding to be okay with what you have". Our scripture for the month is Luke 12:15:
Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against wanting to have more and more things. Life is not made up of how much a person has." NIrV
Things we own can make us happy for a time. That feeling of happiness, however, doesn't last forever. We'll emphasize that what we
own
was never meant to do that. Our focus should be on our relationship with God. People and our relationships matter more than things!

This Week at Point Beach Prep
This week we learned letter D.
Our Nursery enjoyed watching "dinosaur eggs" hatch,making dinosaur prints and hats. They went on a Dinosaur hunt. They read Puff the Magic Dragon, Duck Rabbit, and Duck and Goose. They learned sign language for the letter D and word "dog".
Our Pre-K met Mr. D and his pet dog. They played Doggie, Doggie, Where's Your Bone. Their sensory table changed to water and they found rubber ducks swimming around. They pretended to dig and went around the circle to share what they dug up. Their sight word and sign language word was "dad". They made ducks, dots and dinosaurs. they read The Donut Chef, Daniel's Dinosaurs, Puff the Magic Dragon, One Stuck Duck, and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus. They sang Ding Dong, Do-re-mi,The Farmer in the Dell, and played Duck Duck Goose.
Thursday we all enjoyed a visit from members of the Point Pleasant Beach Fire Department, who came to do a demonstration for Fire Prevention Week. Our students were able to spray the fire hose and sit inside the fire truck!
The Friday morning class was treated to a visit from George the Therapy Dog! It was a delightful week!

Happy Anniversary PPPC!
On October 22, 1882 a committee from Presbytery came to the home of the Rev. Dr. Charles E Knox in Point Pleasant and received ten letters of profession of faith from various families. Rev. A.H. Dashiel of Brickburg Church (now Lakewood) read the Confession and Covenant to which these persons gave their consent. Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church was then declared regularly constituted with these ten members and placed under the Presbytery of Monmouth.
Next Sunday, October 21 we will celebrate our 136th Church Anniversary. An all church brunch will be held in Wilton Hall. During this time a presentation on New Beginnings mission study will be shown. Please come and celebrate God's ongoing faithfulness to our church.

Jersey Shore Remembers - Paying it Forward With Cleanup Supplies Over the Month of October
Kyle and Frank Jones are collecting items that will be sent down to Hurricane Florence survivors in affected areas in the Carolinas.
Throughout the month of October, look for Kyle and Frank after church on Sundays. Frank's black pickup will be by the CE Annex driveway. They will collect your items and load them into their black pickup truck or just put them in the bed of the truck. You can pull up your car by the driveway so there is no need for carrying items into church. Items can also be dropped off in the office at anytime in October.
Here's a list of items that are needed now, mainly cleaning, muck-out supplies:
Cleaning supplies, bleach , 5-gallon buckets, contractor garbage bags, flashlights, batteries, soap, hand sanitizer, baby/adult wipes, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, plastic silverware, solar chargers, solar/battery fans, solar lights, ax, generators, work gloves, masks, wheel barrels, hand saws, rakes, shovels, plastic zip bags all sizes, rubber work boots, dehumidifiers, crowbars, hammers, utility knives, sledge hammer, chainsaws, rope, safety glasses, moldicides, large candles, air circulators, extension cords, ground fault protectors, pop-up canopies, dish soap, first-aid kits, collars and leashes, collapsible dog crates, dog bowls, dog beds, cat litter, dog/cat food, Ensure, aspirin, pain relief, nonperishable food (not expired), canned meat (vienna sausage, tuna, spam, chicken, ham, beef stew, soup, peanut butter, beans (can and dry), vegetables/fruits in a can, spaghetti, beef jerky, Slim Jim's, CAN OPENERS - NO GLASS
