MCS Hero of the Week

Congratulations to this week's Hero Chris Lucas. We hope you enjoy your up-close parking spot.

Two Words - ABOVE AND BEYOND - that is Chris Lucas (MCS Band Teacher):   In every way he goes above and beyond from the time, heart, and discipleship he pours into every student, to leading our school - elementary and middle school - into worship, to building a rocking band, to lugging equipment and students off campus for class, to being the king of flexibility, to maintaining a positive spirit no matter what. I don't think many others can match his resiliency or willingness. He is the definition of a passionate servant leader and he is Spirit filled on top of it! We are blessed above and beyond with Chris on the Team!

There are a plethora of words that describe CHRIS LUCAS, but let's take the opportunity to highlight a few:

ANNOINTED - This man loves Jesus with every ounce of his being and uses his gifts and talents to glorify God and advance the Kingdom. He is Holy Spirit led in everything he does, and boldly pursues where God is calling him.

PASSIONATE - You only have to see him worship to see his passion for Jesus! Chris pours himself into his students, his programs, and his purpose at MCS. He sees our students and empowers them in their giftings, encouraging them to step out and take ownership of their faith.

MENTOR - It's such a blessing to see Chris live out his calling everywhere he goes. What he teaches our students goes so far beyond music..it's more of discipleship training. For evidence of his mentorship, just look at how many of our alumni are leading worship in their local circles.

TEAM PLAYER - He is ALL IN ...ALL THE TIME! He is a contributor, he is flexible, he is encouraging, and he makes everyone around him better. He constantly goes out of his way for the betterment of others. A perfect example is his willingness to fill the need for male chaperones in Pine Valley (those students are so blessed to have him there!).

HUMBLE - The only way to know how talented this outstanding musician is, you would have to watch him live his life...because he is too humble to talk about it!

HERO - He embodies the definition of HERO: "A person who is admired for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities."

Happy SOCK-tober! OCTOBER 15-19

We are excited to kick off our first DIFFERENCE MAKER collection drive of the 2018-19 school year with a sock drive!

SOCKTOBER will launch in our Elementary School this Monday and run 10/15-10/19. We are asking all MCS students to donate a pair or package of new or gently used socks (adult size) to help bless the homeless.

HOW WILL THIS WORK?
-Each homeroom class will have their own "Difference Maker Collection Box."
-Students will drop their socks in the box after they enter their class in the morning.
-Elementary students can bring their sock donations anytime next week (10/15-10/19)!

Thank you for your help with empowering our students to be DIFFERENCE MAKERS FOR HIS KINGDOM!!! Speaking of Difference Makers, we would like to introduce you to a team of elementary and middle school students who were selected to lead a Difference Maker project that is going to empower all of our MCS students to help care for the homeless here in our community.

They will lead 2 all school drives (SOCK-tober in October and the Fall Food Drive in November) that will serve to help us collect the items needed for this project. The Food Drive will also bless Project Giving Light's food pantry at Skyview Elementary. Stay tuned for more details on their project.

An Invitation for MCS Grandparents and Veterans - Parents Please Forward and/or Hand Deliver a Copy
MCS Grandparents and Veterans
are cordially invited to the
MCS Salute to Veterans
Monday, November 12, 2018

Dear MCS Parents,

On Monday, November 12th, Mariners Christian School will host our annual "Salute to Veterans" event honoring MCS Grandparents and Veterans.

We extend a special invitation to MCS Parents and Alumni who have served or who are currently serving in the military (spouses are welcome to join in the festivities). Due to space limitations, this event is not open to MCS Parents, except those mentioned above.  The event will be available to view via Livestream. We will forward the link to you a few days prior to the event.

Monday, November 12, is a regular full day of school for grades TK-8th. Student dress for November 12th is Regular School Uniform or Girl/Boy Scout Uniform.

The primary reason for this email is to ask you, our parents, to forward (or hand deliver) the enclosed invitation to your students' Grandparents and remind them of the following:
  • Parking:  The front lot near the school entrance is designated for guests with special needs. Parking for everyone is available at the far end of the front lot, the playground blacktop, and on the street at Fischer and Airway Avenues.
  • Event Details: The event begins at 9:00 a.m. with a light breakfast and welcome on our new Middle School Patio behind the gym. At 10:30 a.m. our students join our guests in an assembly room for a special Veterans Day tribute which includes a guest speaker, music, and a special focus.
  • Please Note: Students will return to their classroom following the program as this is a regular full day of instruction.
Thank you for passing along the invitation: click and forward this link.
There are extra invitations available at the front desk if you would prefer to hand deliver a copy.

We look forward to honoring our Veterans and spending the morning with our beloved Grandparents.

Middle School Chapel with Our Very Own Mr. Brown
During Monday's 6th and 7th grade chapel on the field, our students were blessed to hear from our very own math teacher, Mr. Brown, about what it means to love our enemies. After sharing about the many ways Jesus loved his enemies, Mr. Brown challenged the students to consider that since God is love, and they are children of God, they too should be loving because that is what children of God do. In homeroom, students were able to debrief together about what might keep them from loving their enemies and how to step out in love.

While the 6th and 7th graders were soaking in what it means to love our enemies, the 8th graders were in a DC Preparation Chapel, as they prepared their hearts and minds for what God purposes while they are in DC.

Middle School Share2Wear - Happy SOCK-tober!
Share Day - Tuesday (10/16): Share Adult-Size Socks
Wear Day - Wednesday (10/17): Sports Attire

SOCK-tober will launch in our Elementary School on Monday and run 10/15-10/19. Middle School students are going to participate in SOCK-tober with Share2Wear! They will "share" a pair or package of new or gently used socks (adult size) on Tuesday, October 16th, in order to "wear" Support-A-Sport attire! The socks collected in the middle school will go with our 7th graders during their serve week to bless the homeless ministry at Lighthouse Church.

Any middle schooler who shares socks on Tuesday (10/16), will get to participate in our theme dress on Wednesday (10/17). For Support-A-Sport attire, students can choose to dress like a player or dress like a fan of their favorite sport! Students must have at least 2 items showing that they are participating in our theme. We hope to see jerseys, uniforms, hats, socks, sweatbands, scarves, eye black, and team colors represented everywhere! We hope our hallways look like a sports haven on Wednesday!

Thank you for your help with empowering our students to be DIFFERENCE MAKERS FOR HIS KINGDOM!!!  Speaking of Difference Makers, we want to introduce you to the students who are working hard behind the scenes to collect the items needed for our MCS students to be empowered to intentionally care for the homeless in our community. We can't wait to share more about the project they will be leading over the next couple of months! Stay tuned for more details ...
