Westland, MI (October 10, 2018) -
The holidays are quickly approaching and for the 5th year, the Wayne-Ford Civic League will be partnering with local elected officials to ensure veterans in need and active duty families have a proper holiday meal.
Participants
can choose between Turkey (16-20 lb) or Ham (10-12 lb) and all meals will include stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, sweet potatoes, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, and heat & serve rolls for a family of 6-8 people.
Donations can be made in support of these efforts online by visiting the Wayne Ford Civic League Facebook page or in person at the Wayne Ford Civic League, located at 1661 N. Wayne Rd. Donations can also be dropped off at the Mayor's Office, located inside Westland City Hall at 36300 Warren Rd.
"This cause means a lot to our most needy veterans and families of active duty service members who struggle to afford the cost of a family gathering during the Thanksgiving holiday," commented Mayor Wild. "Throughout the 5 years of participating in this program, my office has been flooded with calls of appreciation from Veterans and Active Duty Family Members. It's truly
heartwarming
and encompasses what the holidays and being a Compassionate City is all about."
"As a veteran, I was proud to begin this tradition with Mayor Wild and State Representative Kosowski," commented Vic Barra, President of the Wayne Ford Civic League. "Every year we are able to help more and more people and to see it grow as more veterans become aware of the effort is extremely rewarding.Your donation can make a difference by ensuring that all of our men and women who have served our nation are remembered during the upcoming holiday season."
With growing support for the program, a record number of local elected officials have signed on to participate alongside Mayor Wild and State Representative Kosowski, including City Clerk Richard LeBlanc, State Representative-elect Kevin Coleman, County Commissioner Glenn Anderson and the entire Westland City Council.
