Top 5: Recognizing Our Classified Employees
It's Classified Employee Recognition Week, our opportunity to thank these team members for all they do in supporting our families and students.  Your stories of dedicated paraprofessionals, facilities managers, food service workers and other team members are proof that classified employees keep DPS running every day.  A few shout outs are featured below and read all of them here

5. " Renita Guss is the manager of our kitchen. She is amazing with students, staff and her employees. She always has nutritious meals ready for the students as well as snacks and fruit. Oh, and don't forget Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC). She treats all students as if they were her own." -- Barb Evans, Farrell B. Howell

4. "I want to call out  Renee Hernandez, our secretary. She constantly and cheerfully volunteers to do more than what her job asks every day. If I need something, she is the person who can help me -- and does." -- Ami Hall, Schmitt Elementary

3.  " Our facilities manager,  Zafer Sarier , is just amazing. He's not only quick to respond to problems, he troubleshoots them and tries to prevent them. Our building needs updating and it must be a job and a half for him to keep it all together, but he does it!"  -- Sarah Thomas, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College

2. " Kate Adams is an amazing resource for DPS. She is a cataloger, the person responsible for making sure students and teachers can find the library books they are looking for. Her work is behind the scenes, but it is vital to ensuring our students get just the right book at just the right time!"  -- Len Bryan, Educational Technology and Library Services

1. " Mary Archuleta is a veteran paraprofessional at Force Elementary. She has been working here for 29 years and knows all of the ins and outs of Force. In my classroom, she goes above and beyond her call of duty to create assignments for the students to really reach them individually and get what their needs are. She pulls small groups and is wonderful with everything in and out of the classroom. She truly is an asset to Force students and teachers!" -- Chrystal Hernandez, Force Elementary

Perks at Work: Voluntary Retirement Savings Plans
It's never too early to start planning for retirement! DPS team members can enroll in a 403(b) or 457(b) voluntarily retirement plan with VALIC. These plans offer team members the opportunity to save additional money for retirement. That's important because not every employee will work at DPS long enough to retire under PERA. In addition, PERA is not designed to replace your full pre-retirement income and you may want to save additional money for retirement.

DPS team members can enroll in an account at any time. Click here to enroll in Traditional (pre-tax) plan or click here to enroll in a ROTH (post tax) account.  Need help choosing a plan? Call VALIC at 1-800-448-2542 .

In Remembrance: Kathy Hill and Rallie Ginsberg
The DPS community is remembering two beloved team members, Kathy Hill and Rallie Ginsberg.

Kathy Hill, f rom the Department of Extended Learning and Community Schools,  supported DPS' kids in out-of-school time spaces for almost 20 years. Most recently, Kathy served as the Licensing and Quality Coordinator and was a fierce advocate for equitable and safe spaces for every child across Discovery Link's 46 sites. Rallie Ginsberg
Rallie Ginsberg was an hourly secretary with our Gifted and Talented team -- and worked up until her final days, even at 102 years old! Born in Denver in 1916, she worked as a substitute secretary in our schools before moving into the Gifted and Talented Department later in her career. As she watched her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids attend DPS, she continued to support our schools and all our students, day after day, year after year. Read more about Rallie in an edition of Our DPS Weekly in 2017.
Living Our DPS Honoree
Christina Archuleta
Food Services, Math and Science Leadership Academy
Fun

"At Math and Science Leadership Academy, Ms. Christina lives our Shared Core Value of Fun. She not only prepares and serves breakfast and lunch to hundreds of students every day, but she does it with a big smile and a personal touch. Ms. Christina knows every student, greets them by name and genuinely asks about how their day is going or notices when they are feeling down. She gives them pep talks and helps brighten their day! We are so lucky to have her and the entire hardworking cafeteria team supporting our school!"

-- Diana Blau, Math and Science Leadership Academy
