Greetings,

With Election Day less than a month away, candidates are heading into the home stretch.

Maryland Update
In Maryland, the gubernatorial race appears to be anything but a nail-biter.  Republican Gov. Larry Hogan is ahead of Democratic challenger Ben Jealous by wide double digit margins in two new independent polls released this week. Gonzales Research and Media Services  has Hogan winning 54% to 36%, while  the Washington Post-University of Maryland poll has the governor ahead 58% to 38%. Both polls found few voters undecided four weeks out from Election Day.

The Association continues to work with the Maryland Consumer Financial Protection Commission and the Attorney General's Office on data breach legislation that would tighten notification requirements and make all members of the marketplace accountable for the same level of security standards.

DC Update
Last week, the Association testified before the DC Council's Business and Economic Development Committee in support of a bill to enhance protections for seniors from financial exploitation. While we are supportive up the bill, we did express concern about the bill's mandatory reporting requirements.

We also met with Stephen Taylor, Commissioner of the DC Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB) and Associate Commissioner for Banking, Brian Williams. Williams stopped by the financial reality fair at the Metropolitan Police Department's Tactical Center. He was impressed with the real life experience offered and the enthusiasm of both the participants and volunteers.
