August Opportunities for Action
August is a quiet month for the legislature and for League activity. Enjoy the summer and get ready to take action this fall.

League Day on the Hill Lobby Day Oct. 17
Plan now to participate in the League’s Day on the Hill lobby day, Thursday, Oct. 17, at the State House. Our featured speaker will be Senate President Karen Spilka. The program will run from 10 a.m. to noon, with a chance for you to go and speak with your own Senator and Representative on League priority legislation afterwards.

This is the time to make the League’s voice heard on Beacon Hill. Put the date in your calendar and set up a carpool of League friends to come to Boston for the morning.

Volunteers Needed for Election Expo
LWVMA will have a table at the Boston Election Expo Saturday, Aug. 17. We need a few volunteers to help out. The expo is at the Reggie Lewis Gymnasium, 1350 Tremont St., Roxbury and runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that Saturday. If you can help, please contact Mary Ann Ashton.

The expo will feature demonstrations of new voting equipment, resource tables, and voter engagement efforts.

Global Climate Strike Sept. 20
At the June LWVMA Convention, League members unanimously supported a Climate Emergency Resolution. Now we need to act on that resolution. Members of the Environmental Action and Advocacy Committee are working on a plan of action, and also coordinating with the lead organizing group,  350.org, for LWVMA participation in the Global Climate Strike Friday, Sept. 20. Stay tuned for updates on our plans and information on what you and your League can do.

LWVUS Healthcare Toolkit
The national League has prepared information to help members interested in advocating for universal affordable health care. A toolkit of resources is available on the League Management Site, provided by the LWV National Healthcare Reform Committee (HCR4US). The committee’s goal is to help Leagues continue to fight for universal healthcare.
