AEA Names Mike Adamson President and CEO
|
Following an extensive search process, the Aircraft Electronics Association's board of directors announced its selection of Mike Adamson as its president and chief executive officer to become effective March 25, 2019, during the 62nd annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show in Palm Springs, California. Adamson will succeed Paula Derks, who is retiring next spring after serving as AEA president and CEO since 1996.
"First, let me congratulate Paula Derks on her well-deserved retirement," Adamson said. "I'm extremely grateful for her leadership during the past 22 years and could not have asked for a better mentor who has challenged and prepared me for this opportunity. I am committed to enhancing the profitability of our members through a broad range of programs and services and to further our position as aviation's technology experts. The AEA will continue to be out front on the important issues affecting our membership and provide leadership on the organizational and philosophical changes taking place within the international regulatory authorities."

President Trump Signs 5-Year FAA Funding Bill
|
On Friday, Oct. 5, President Donald Trump signed H.R. 302. The bipartisan legislation was overwhelmingly approved in both houses of Congress. The bill provides long-term stability and critical reforms to the Federal Aviation Administration and nearly $90 billion in funding over the next five years.
The last time Congress enacted a multi-year authorization bill for the FAA was 2012, and the agency has been working under a series of short-term extensions since September 2015. The current authority for FAA activities was extended in March of this year and expired Sept. 30.

Registration has opened for the 62nd annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show, the largest gathering of general aviation avionics manufacturers, distributors and government-certified repair stations in the world. LATITUDE TECHNOLOGIES received United States Patent No. 10075228, “Aircraft Flight Data Monitoring and Reporting System and Use Thereof.” First filed in 2013, the newly issued patent recognizes the unique system and advanced methods invented by Latitude’s engineers and programmers used for recording, reporting, and analysis of both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft flight data in real time.
uAVIONIX announced the release of its 1090nano, a 1090 MHz ADS-B single chip solution for unmanned aircraft systems ADS-B transceivers and detect-and-avoid applications.
GENESYS AEROSYSTEMS earned FAA supplemental type certificate approval of the S-TEC 3100 on the Cessna 310, 320, 335, 340, 340A, 414, 421, 425 and Piper PA-46.

GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. delivered the first all-new Gulfstream G500. In addition, the company acquired The NORDAM Group Inc. manufacturing line that produces nacelles for the Gulfstream G500 and Gulfstream G600. Gulfstream also opened a sales and design center in Midtown Manhattan.
SATCOM DIRECT announced the launch of SD Scheduler, a cloud-based software solution. SD Scheduler further enhances the SD ecosystem, providing centralized management of aircraft and flight information, as well as customized reporting and analytics to support the entire flight operation.
PEREGRINE announced that on Aug. 13, 2018, the National Civil Aviation Agency Brazil - Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (ANAC) issued Peregrine STC ST00790DE Brazilian validation. With this validation, the Peregrine STC is now approved for installations throughout most of the Americas, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
ASTRONICS CORP. announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Astronics Test Systems entered into a formal letter of intent to provide a test system program for a customer in the transportation industry. The LOI provides for an anticipated program value of approximately $30 million with additional options for up to a total value of approximately $50 million over the next five years.

ROBOTIC SKIES teamed with Boeing and its subsidiaries Jeppesen and Aviall to develop and deliver supply chain management and optimization, analytics, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for the commercial and civil UAS markets.
TRIG AVIONICS announced plans to move its regulatory headquarters to the Netherlands, as part of its planned European expansion. Beginning spring 2019, production and certification of Trig products will be controlled from the Trig office in the Netherlands. This change in compliance, will mean Trig products are unaffected by any potential disruption caused by Brexit aviation restrictions.
GARMIN and Bell Helicopter signed a teaming agreement on the development and integration of the autonomous vehicle management computer systems to support Bell’s vertical take-off and landing aircraft. Garmin also announced another addition to its portfolio of G1000 NXi integrated flight deck upgrades to now include G1000-equipped Piper M500 aircraft.

COBHAM Aerospace Communications entered into a contract for the certification of the AVIATOR 300D satellite communication system on Boeing 737NG aircraft.
DUNCAN AVIATION performed an industry-first installation of a Rosen Tablet Holder in a Dassault Falcon 2000. Duncan Aviation also signed a new Parts Reclamation Engine Surplus agreement with Honeywell Aerospace. This agreement applies to Honeywell TFE731-2 and -3 engines and engine parts and reauthorizes Duncan Aviation to purchase, inspect, repair as necessary, and recertify serviceable parts using Honeywell technical information.
SOCAL JETS INC. was named an authorized dealer of Viasat global communications services and Becker Avionics communication, navigation, surveillance and digital intercom systems.
WEST STAR AVIATION will sponsor the NBAA Careers in Business Aviation Day Oct. 18 during the NBAA Convention.
