"This book hit a heartstring with me." - Vicki Shurly, Director, Peninsula Community Library
|
Traverse City author Cari Noga’s second novel, The Orphan Daughter, has a setting familiar to many of us: The Old Mission Peninsula. It tells the story of how two fragile souls - 11-year-old orphan Lucy Ortiz and her aunt, prickly empty-nester Jane McArdle - forge a family in the aftermath of tragedy. For both plot and characters, Cari mined the resources of the local resort and agriculture community. Co-protagonist Jane runs a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) business on Traverse City’s Old Mission Peninsula. In real life, Cari subscribed to Barbara Wunsch’s Peak Season CSA, also located on the Old Mission Peninsula. Buy The Orphan Daughter at

Old Mission Vintage
Panthers Gear
|
Early on in organized school sports in Grand Traverse County, the Old Mission Peninsula School (OMPS) Panthers earned the reputation of a force to be reckoned with. Where the larger schools had more students to draw from for their teams, OMPS sometimes barely had enough boys and girls to field their respective teams. Despite this, the Panthers filled the large glass trophy cases in the school lobby with dozens of championship trophies and pictures of the teams from years gone by. Become an honorary team member and wear the Panther banner with pride, for it exemplifies the Peninsula spirit - grit, determination and the desire to win, no matter the odds.
