MAESA Episcopal Schools Day Celebration

Today, our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students traveled down to the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. to take part in the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal School Association's (MAESA) Episcopal Schools Day Celebration.

CES was one of only two schools invited to perform today! With our CES banner flying high, our students sang "Lord of the Harvest" and celebrated with 14 other mid-Atlantic Episcopal schools and their 850 students present at the Cathedral today.

A Message from the Head of School:

Dear CES Families,

Today I received a video clip from Leslie,  my daughter, of my granddaughter, Dylan, playing the game, "Where is Dylan?"  The problem is that she only covers one eye! So, what you see is this chubby hand covering up one eye, a big blue eye looking right at you, and a very serious little face.  When Leslie asks her, "Where is Dylan?" she pulls her hand away from that one eye with a big smile on her face, as if she is saying, "Aren't you happy that you found me?" It's hilarious and ridiculous all at the same time.  But, sweet Dylan is SO proud.

It reminded me of what I see at CES everyday.  Students from preschool through eighth grade, spend everyday here trying to do something new and different.  Sometimes it looks ridiculous (and endearing); sometimes it is incredibly frustrating (for them and for the adults); and sometimes it is a moment of unbridled joy and pride.  It is such a privilege to be in a daily setting in which I have the opportunity to see transformational change in almost every student. If I don't see it in your child today, I am pretty much guaranteed that I will have the opportunity at some point during the week.

When the journey seems tough, or raising children seems like an endless job, try to remember that each day is an opportunity for unbridled joy at learning or accomplishing something new.  And, seeing the journey through the eyes (or just one eye) of your child, will remind you of all the growing and learning that has taken place. It is a miraculous process, and when we take the time to watch it, to truly allow ourselves to SEE it, you cannot be anything but amazed.

With love and gratitude,

Caroline Chapin, Ed. D.
