FOR KINDERGARTEN PARENTS ONLY
The state is requiring us to collect early childhood education experience.
All Kindergarten parents
need to complete the form called Early Childhood Education Experience, available in
EZSchoolEnroll
.
The form consists of one question and applies only to KF students.
Why is the state collecting this information? It is expected that these data will be used to inform school districts and the state about the types of experiences with which children in each district enter kindergarten, and to provide greater support for alignment of educational experiences across the birth to grade 3 learning continuum.

Understanding Natick's Response to Intervention (RTI):
Identifying and Supporting Struggling Students
Tuesday, October 23, 2018, 7 pm, Wilson Middle School Auditorium
Please join Interim Superintendent, Dr. Anna Nolin and Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Tim Luff for an overview of Response to Intervention (RTI) and how it has been implemented in Natick’s schools. RTI is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with academic and/or behavior needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom. This program should be helpful for parents/caregivers as they prepare for Teacher- Parent conferences.

Happy October Memorial families!
Read this—it’s totally worth it.
The fall yields some fairly spectacular work from the art room if I do say so myself, so here I am to provide a friendly update.
First and foremost—thank you for your Recycle Center donations! I am so appreciative and the wipes are an AMAZING addition to our clean up routine! Indeed, my enthusiasm is capital-letter plentiful for wipes in the art room.
Secondly, I have rebranded my social media-self. Over the past few years I have coached your children to be confident, innovative thinkers and as such, I felt, “Coach T,” suited me well. So please search and follow
@artwithcoacht
on Instagram and Twitter. My website is also now
www.artwithcoacht.com
— give it a browse for an in-depth look at my curriculum and teaching philosophy.
Thirdly, I am looking for a parent volunteer to help with some prep work. This opportunity involves coming in during one of my off days (Monday/Tuesday) and cutting paper to start. So, if you have a passion for meticulous detail, or just have an empty spot in your heart that can only be filled by cutting large paper into tiny shapes,
this
is your moment. Seize it.
What are we even doing?
Currently, students are finishing up their Square1 Art Fundraising Project. Your young artists are creating work (Wayne Thiebaud-inspired cakes/cupcakes, Romero Britto Pets, Sunset Sailboats, and Eric Carle-inspired stars) that you’ll have the opportunity to order on keepsake items (mugs, bags, bottles, keychains, etc). We will be sending a packet home in a few weeks with details that should answer any questions you might have.
Okay that’s it. I don’t do short versions. So, stayed tuned and happy creating!
Ever true,
Coach T
Mrs. Thompson

Vision and Hearing Screenings
Vision screening is mandated by Massachusetts State Laws in public schools annually in grades K through 4. K students are exempt from vision screening if documentation of a screening is provided by the pediatrician on their health form. Hearing screening is mandated in grade K through 3. If your child does not pass these basic screenings you will receive a letter asking you to follow-up with the child's physician and/or appropriate specialist. If you do receive a letter it is imperative that you return the letter with the follow-up, so this important information can be kept in your child's medical record. If you would like to have your child exempt from the screenings, you need to send a written note, one for each screening you do not want your child to participate in, and it will be kept in your child's health file. Please send the written correspondence to Michelle LeBlanc RN, the school nurse at Memorial.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO COMPLETE HEALTH FORMS IN EZ SCHOOL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. TYLENOL AND IBUPROFEN PERMISSIONS ARE PART OF OF THESE FORMS AND I AM NOT ALLOWED TO DISPENSE THEM WITHOUT PERMISSION ON FILE.

Dear Memorial School Parents,
Come one, come all non-third grade parents to Colonial Night, 6:30 – 8:00 on Monday, October 29th.
Your help is needed so that third graders and their parents can enjoy this Memorial tradition. You may remember attending yourself, or you may want to see what you can look forward to when your child is in third grade. No previous experience necessary.
During Colonial Night students will participate in various hands on activities with their parents, such as Tin and Nail, Quill and Ink, Butter Making, Games, Stenciling, Dancing and Cross Stitch, and Native American art. (Third grade students will be receiving additional information about this evening as the date approaches.)
We need several adults to guide these activities and help with setup and cleanup. All materials for this evening will be provided by the third grade team. Please help make this important event a success by volunteering your time. Contact Cathy Reilly at
careilly@natickps.org
if you’re interested in helping.

Who we are:
The Natick Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is an all-volunteer organization of parents and caregivers of children receiving support services in the Natick public schools and private school settings. We are dedicated to building a network for families whose children receive or are requesting support services through an IEP/504.
SEPAC provides a parent’s perspective of information, support, and recommendations.
SEPAC is for:
- Parents who suspect their child may have some learning or behavioral challenges. Is he/she struggling in school? Does your child have attention issues? Is he/she socially awkward or isolated?
- Parents with children on IEPs and 504s or parents just learning about the student services process who have questions or may need support from other parents.
- Parents and educators interested in receiving email notification on workshops, events, or legislative activity.

Intelligent Lives
Monday, October 29, 2018, 7 pm, Natick High School Auditorium
From award-winning filmmaker Dan Habib comes
INTELLIGENT LIVES
, a catalyst to transform the label of intellectual disability from a life sentence of isolation into a life of possibility for the most systematically segregated people in America.
INTELLIGENT LIVES
stars three pioneering young American adults with intellectual disabilities—Micah, Naieer, and Naomie—who challenge perceptions of intelligence as they navigate high school, college, and the workforce. Academy Award-winning actor and narrator Chris Cooper contextualizes the lives of these central characters through the emotional personal story of his son Jesse, as the film unpacks the shameful and ongoing track record of intelligence testing in the United States.
INTELLIGENT LIVES
challenges what it means to be intelligent, and points to a future in which people of
all
abilities can fully participate in higher education, meaningful employment, and intimate relationship.
