Mission Spotlight:  Randy & Martha
Randy & Martha worshipped with us on September 30th and shared the work God has called them to do and ways we could pray for them.
Randy has been serving in lay ministry since he was in his early 20s in student and workplace outreach and the last 17 years in cross cultural missions to an unreached people group in SE Asia. Please pray that disciples for Jesus (in families and communities) will be raised up. He has been a team leader for the past 12 years and is a practitioner of business as mission/business for transformation as well as loves to express faith in practical ways to unchurched people. He and Martha have been married for 26 years and have 2 adult children, aged 19, who have recently started college. Please pray for them that they will walk with Jesus and thrive in His covenant.
Randy and Martha serve in a critical role as Training and Development Coordinators for mission workers going to difficult places where there are few or no followers of Jesus. As coaches, mentors and problem solvers they are essential in keeping field workers on the field, encouraged, resourced, spiritually/emotionally healthy and fruitful. Please pray for them, in this work, that they may be encouraged.

Time to clean out those
Winter Coats!!!

Temperatures are beginning to cool down and with that comes digging in the closet for last years winter coat. If you find it is too small or a little worn, we have the place to bring it. The month of October and November we will collect gently used coats for Salvation Army.   Drop boxes will be in the CLC building. We will collect these coats on November 14th for Salvation Army to hand out.

Light, Life and Love... A Study of 1st John
*This class will begin October 10
As believers, we are born of God, we have fellowship with God, and our eternal home is with God. Yet, for now, we live in a world that is opposed to the things of God. How do we live faithfully in such a world? The Apostle John gives us beautiful insight and guidance. God is Light, God is Life, and God is Love. As we abide in Him, we overcome the world.
Let's journey together through the first epistle of John and meditate on the One who is perfect Love.
(Led by Phyllis Pemerton)

Marriage Enrichment Continues
The 6-week Marriage Enrichment class will soon draw to a close, but starting Wednesday, October 17 through Wednesday, November 28 (just 5 sessions) we would like to carry on the marriage conversation by forming several small groups developed around the same themes as the marriage class. These groups will allow opportunity to strengthen marriages in the context of more informal discussion and fellowship. Please see Rev. Schwartz if this may be of interest to you.

A Reasoned Faith: Apologetics for the 21st Century
This class seeks to give an introduction to Christian Apologetics by establishing the purpose, limits, and need for the discipline. During this course, we will also address some common critiques of the faith as well as present a few classic and more modern arguments for the existence of God.  (Led by Rev. Charles Looney)

EPC issues Call for Prayer and Fasting ahead
of October 12 hearing

The trial of Andrew Brunson, EPC Teaching Elder imprisoned in Turkey since October 2016, resumes on Friday, October 12. In an effort to stand with and pray for the Brunson family, the EPC is issuing a Call to Prayer and Fasting for the week of October 8.

"Recent speculation in the media that Andrew could be released on October 12 should cause us to ramp up our prayer efforts," said Jeff Jeremiah, EPC Stated Clerk. "We all desperately want that outcome, so I hope that every one of our 600 congregations will participate in this week of prayer and fasting."

Six specific prayers are suggested for the days leading to the October 12 hearing:

  • Pray for Andrew and Norine's continued physical safety, as well as perseverance in prayer and protection from discouragement.
  • Pray for God to prepare all of the players in the trial: the prosecution, the defense, every witness, and Andrew himself. Pray for God's wisdom to prevail over all aspects of the trial.
  • Pray for Andrew to be emboldened to give a clear gospel witness, and that those in attendance (including media, guards, attorneys, and others) would hear and understand the gospel message.
  • Pray for media representatives at the trial to be safe, and for journalists to write reports that will glorify God.
  • Pray that unless the Lord has a purpose in keeping Andrew in Turkey, that he will be released from his current house arrest, allowed the freedom to travel, and acquitted of the charges.
  • Pray that God will use the trial and its outcome to open doors for the gospel in Turkey.

Prosecutors in the case have asked for a 35-year prison sentence on charges that Brunson helped terrorist organizations and worked to convert Turks to Christianity.

An in-depth, 31-day prayer initiative for Andrew and the nation of Turkey, plus other Andrew Brunson information,
