EAI November News & Updates
Carol Meets Mundi!

Mundi is safe and healthy.

EAI founder Carol Buckley traveled to Puerto Rico last month to meet Elephant Refuge North America's first resident-to-be, Mundi, who currently lives at the Dr. Juan A. Rivero Zoo in Mayagüez. Fortunately, Mundi, her caregivers and facility weathered Hurricane Maria with minimal effects, and she is in good physical, emotional and psychological health. Carol also met with government officials to discuss the logistics of Mundi's move to ERNA.

EAI founder Carol Buckly meets Team Mundi.

Alex Rivera, the talented young filmmaker who made UNCHAINED, a film about EAI's work in Nepal, met Carol in Puerto Rico to get behind-the-scenes footage for a future documentary about Mundi's move. (See below for exciting UNCHAINED news!)
PAWS Offers to Loan a Crate for Mundi's Move

Thanks to Ed Stewart of the Performing Animal Welfare Society, Mundi will travel in style to ERNA in a crate provided by PAWS. The loan is in memory of PAWS co-founder Pat Derby, who devoted her life to improving the welfare of captive wildlife.

We are very grateful to PAWS for this generous loan. But, as those of you who have followed any elephant move know, the crate is only one piece of what will be a complex and expensive operation.

We've made a good start toward raising the funds needed for Mundi's move, but we still need your help. Every donation, large or small, brings us closer to the day Mundi will start her new life in Georgia. Please donate and become part of
Mundi's Move .

Mundi's Corral is Almost Ready!

Our amazing fence crew is busy pulling cable and we are nearly finished with Mundi's corral. We thank Polo and the crew, not to mention our amazing volunteers, for their hard work and dedication!
Do You Have a Used Farm Truck to Donate?

We need a used farm truck to prepare ERNA for Mundi and the elephants who will join her in the future. If you, or anyone you know, has a used truck in good working order, please consider donating it to our cause! Remember that your donation is tax deductible. Please write Carol at [email protected] if you have a good lead or have a truck to donate. Thanks!

EAI Advisory Council Members in the News

Peter Stroud, an authority on the wellbeing of elephants in captivity, wrote a powerful op-ed for The Sydney Morning Herald on the death of a bull elephant at the Melbourne Zoo and how zoos fail elephants.

Dr. Deepani Jayantha, a veterinarian in Sri Lanka, spoke with Women Talk about human-elephant conflict and her commitment to safeguard fast disappearing wildlife habitats on the island.
