Our Economy Can't Recover Without Early Care & Education
NOTE: The email address provided for submitting comments to the House Appropriations Committee in the previous version of this email was incorrect. It has been updated in this version. Thank you!

Dear Advocates,

Below is an Action Alert from the Ready Louisiana Coalition , of which United Way of Southeast Louisiana is a leading member. Your support is urgently needed to ensure early care and education is a priority in Louisana's 2020-21 budget.

This Monday, May 11, the House Appropriations Committee will begin public hearings on HB 105, the proposed budget bill sponsored by Rep. Zeringue. It is imperative that we keep early care and education on legislators’ minds. Louisiana cannot afford to cut early childhood education funding . Due to COVID-19, the Legislature has requested that stakeholders and advocates contact legislators in advance of committee meetings.

We need as many people and organizations as possible to submit written comments to the House Appropriations Committee by Sunday, May 10, at 12 p.m.

Please take action ASAP:

  1. Email the House Appropriations Committee by Sunday, May 10, at 12 p.m. Email andressk@legis.la.gov and cc your local state senator(s) and representative(s), about the importance of early care and education by Sunday, May 10, at 12 p.m. Template letters for business leaders, parents, and child care providers can be found here. We encourage you to personalize these templates.
  2. Share this petition with your networks. While personalization is best, volume matters too! We want as many Louisianans as possible to sign onto this letter before Sunday, May 10, at 10 a.m., at which point we will close the post and send it to the Committee. Please share this petition as much as possible.
  3. Forward this email to your networks. Share this email with your network so they can send their own letters via email to andressk@legis.la.gov by Sunday, May 10, at 12 p.m. Encourage people to personalize as much as possible and remind them of the deadline. Encourage them to share the petition with their networks as well.
  4. Tweet at members of the House Appropriations Committee. Sample tweets and a contact list are available here.
  5. Engage with Ready Louisiana on social media. Ready Louisiana's Facebook and Twitter pages will post updates and tweets about our Coalition’s position. Please like, follow, share, and retweet with the hashtags: #ReadyLA #everybaby #lalege #ECE.

Thank you for all you are doing for the children of Louisiana! Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas to keep this issue on the top of everyone’s agenda.
