Executive Changes Update
By Jeff Yorzyk, ISSP-CSP, Associate Director of Sustainability, HelloFresh

As I shared back in August, ISSP's Executive Director Maureen Hart would be stepping down from her role with us this fall. I'm now following up to let you know that she has officially exited the Leadership Team. However, she'll soon be playing a key role on an Advisory Committee, and we look forward to her continued involvement in ISSP. In the meantime, she'd love for you to stay in touch via LinkedIn. Gina MacIlwraith, who previously did an outstanding job as our Membership Manager, has taken over day-to-day operations. She's working in close partnership with the ISSP Board of Directors as we move towards solidifying new leadership. (Con't.)

ICYMI:  Incentivizing Sustainability Through Employee  Compensation

How can organizations drive their sustainability efforts by including Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria in  compensation and performance management systems? What are organizations already doing in this respect? In 2010, the Conference Board report on Sustainability in the Boardroom found that although sustainability responsibility was being assigned to C-suite, many companies didn't have any structure for oversight. That same year, the World Business Council report "People Matter Reward: Linking Sustainability to Pay," discussed the case for employee reward programs for driving sustainability and some of the problems implementing these programs.

Since last summer, ISSP has been  collaborating with HCM International on a survey to see how much progress has been made since 2010. If you or your organization is using performance / pay incentives related to sustainability to make such efforts more tangible for employees -  please fill out this survey

Anyone who participates will receive a copy of the report!

Profile: Brandon Barber , ISSP-SA
This month, we spoke to Brandon Barber, who is pursuing his M.S. in Sustainability Science at Columbia University.

Brandon first discovered his interest in sustainability through the lens of studying chemistry in High School. "As we learned more about atoms, electrons, and the various ways in which they behave, I dreamed of clean energy, food, medicine and clean water for the entire planet, and how it was all attainable through chemistry," he told us.

As he learned more in college, his views evolved. "I began to understand that the problems we face as a species are not nearly as rooted in technology as I had believed, and neither are their solutions ... We don't need to focus on developing smarter tools, but on training people to use the tools we already have."

Read more about Brandon's approach to sustainability on our  ISSP Member Profiles page . For more information on the professionals who hold an ISSP credential, be sure check out our credential holder directory .
