Dear families,
Last Sunday, in preparation for World Communion Sunday, the Kindergartners, First Graders and Second Graders learned about this special meal that we share together in worship. They were an attentive, earnest bunch with lots of comments and questions! We talked about how special meals mark important occasions in our families. Favorite birthday foods were mentioned as well as Christmas and Thanksgiving traditions.
After we read
A Passover Meal, from
Growing in God's Grace, we learned how Jesus instructed his disciples to remember him each time they gathered together. And we learned that Jesus gave us the bread and the cup as special signs of his transforming love for us. When we gather together, as a church, and share the bread and pass the cup, w
e are reminded of how Jesus gave (and still gives!) himself to nourish us and give us life.
This is the simplest and most appropriate articulation of our Presbyterian theology of The Lord's Supper for our children. If you'd like to talk more, please be in touch.
This Sunday is World Communion Sunday, and there is no church school during the 9:15 service to allow families to worship and participate in the Lord's Supper together. A Bible story and craft time for age 2 - grade 1 (or thereabouts) will take place in room 07. Older siblings are also welcome to join in this time, if interested.
In shared ministry,
