My Kingdom!

A Note From Pastor Linda

The KINGDOM of God is at hand. ~Jesus (Luke 17- and other places too!)

My KINGDOM is not of this world. ~Jesus (John 18)

Dear Friends in Christ~

Did you know that Jesus spoke more about the Kingdom of God than anything else?! The KINGDOM is a big theme for Jesus- mentioned 126 times in the Gospels! The picture that is painted in the Gospel stories (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) as Jesus unfolds the kingdom teachings is that it is both present and it is still in the future; already, but not yet. You hear the future dimension of the kingdom in the Lord's Prayer: "You kingdom come, your will be done" (Matthew 6).  Jesus is more than a hope for the future- Jesus has importance today as we live out the great commission: Go and make disciples... and remember, I am with you always! (Matthew 28- the resurrected Jesus speaking as he ascends to heaven!).

Of the Kingdom of God, Albert Schweitzer (a writer, theologian, humanitarian, philosopher, physician and LUTHERAN!) once said:

There can be no Kingdom of God in the world without the Kingdom of God in our hearts.

So what does the kingdom of God look like? God's kingdom is when God alone rules and when God's hopes for the world are fully present. The kingdom of God comes to life in the lives of believers of all ages. God's kingdom is present when people and communities are healed of their physical ailments but also when those communal fractures that tear us apart are brought back together.

This week's questions all focus on JESUS:
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why Jesus?
  • Is Jesus a Republican or Democrat; a liberal or conservative thinker? (really- one of YOU asked that question!!)

How do we know Jesus? Join us on Wednesday at 6pm for LightHouse worship where Pastor Jen and I will go to the drawing board to consider the many images of Jesus found in Scripture and how they influence our lives in the here and now kingdom. Join us on Sunday where I will take a more concentrated look at who Jesus is- and who Jesus is not.
See you in Church- on Wednesday AND Sunday!

 ~Pastor Linda

Got Questions? Get Answers.
Fall Sunday Series

Everyone has questions.  Young children ask "why?"  Teenagers ask "why not?"  Adults question "what if?"  Do you have questions about God, Jesus, the Bible?  Do you have questions about life?  Do you have questions for God about life?  Every day, more and more people are going to Siri or Alexa or Google to find answers to their questions about and for God.  I have a better idea:  Come to Hosanna to "get answers."

Sleep Out 2018
November 3-4
Time: Saturday 5:00 p.m. - Sunday 12 noon *Arrive no later than 6:30 pm to set up otherwise dark and hard to construct sleeping unit.

Who: Students Grades 7- Adult (Others welcome, kids Grade 6 and under can stay with an adult until 10:30 pm.)

There is NO COST to participate, but pre-registration is required. On the night of the event, participants must check in by 6:30 pm at Hosanna (front lawn).

This is an experiential educational event, participants will be experiencing one night without a home. Although it doesn't begin to touch the realities many face however, it does allow us to acknowledge the problem (homelessness, food insecurity, lack of affordable housing, livable wages, etc.), think about how we might be a part of a solution and develop a deeper sense of Gratitude. Giving even one night will make a difference.
