GOVERNOR OFFERS HOPE BY SETTING MAY 1 AS TARGET DATE TO REOPEN SOME BUSINESS

There is light at the end of the coronavirus tunnel, after all. On Thursday, during his daily COVID-19 briefing, Gov. Mike DeWine announced that he is targeting May 1 as the date to reopen business in Ohio.

HOUSE TASK FORCE INVITES SMALL BUSINESS TESTIMONY
Earlier this month, Speaker of the House Larry Householder set up a House task force to “lay the foundation for economic recovery” from the COVID-19 pandemic.

SAVE SMALL BUSINESS FUND TO LAUNCH
To extend a helping hand to small businesses suffering from the impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation – in partnership with Vistaprint and a coalition of supporting companies, foundations, and philanthropic donors – is working to provide financial relief through the newly-created Save Small Business Fund.

OHIO UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION FILINGS DIP AGAIN, BUT REMAIN AT HISTORICALLY HIGH LEVELS
With over 158,000 Ohioans filing for unemployment in the week ending April 11, the number of Ohioans seeking unemployment compensation remains at historically high levels.

OHIO BUSINESSES UTILIZING THE PAYCHECK PROTECTION PROGRAM
As of this week, upwards of 38,000 businesses in Ohio have had loans approved through the U.S. Small Business Administration totaling over $10 billion.

NEW DISPUTE RESOLUTION COMMISSION CREATED TO INTERPRET ESSENTIAL BUSINESS
In the amended Stay at Home Order (Order) issued on April 2, 2020, a Dispute Resolution Commission was created to resolve disputes regarding what is or is not an essential business.

US EPA RECOMMENDS MAINTAINING THE CURRENT NATIONAL PARTICULATE MATTER STANDARDS
On April 14, after the 5-year National Ambient Air Quality Standards review, the U.S. EPA announced that they will maintain existing National Particulate Matter (PM) Standards.
