The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) will honor Daniel K. Shipp, Retired ISEA President and safety industry expert, with the 2017 Robert B. Hurley Distinguished Service Award, at the association's Award Dinner on Nov. 29 at the Westin Arlington in Arlington, Va. ISEA presents the award each year to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the advancement and promotion of workplace safety and health.

Wearing the right fall protection - and using it correctly - can save lives. However, many
workers continue to die from fall-related injuries. Of the 937 fatalities that occurred in the construction industry in 2015, 350 were because of a fall to a lower level, OSHA states,
adding that these deaths are preventable.
Here, industry insiders discuss what's new in
the fall protection field and what's important to remember.
MSA Safety has elected Sandra Philips Rogers as a new board member. Rogers is group
vice president, general counsel, chief legal officer and corporate secretary for Toyota Motor
North America.
Since 2012, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has annually partnered with Globe
and DuPont to provide fire departments in need with gear to better protect first responders.
According to President Bill England, "Radians is honored to donate safety products that are essential to keeping workers and volunteers safe as they rebuild from in Houston, Florida,
and Puerto Rico. Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria have caused enough hardship and
suffering, and those rebuilding shouldn't have to worry about their personal safety."
Tony Pickett, Associate Director of Product Management - Industrial & M&CD, Scott Safety,
reseller of welding products, has joined its growing distribution network.
It is often difficult for standards to anticipate and properly address new technology,
particularly when various product elements begin to merge into one another. The desire to
offer firefighters and other first responders new capabilities that improve their health and
safety does have to be balanced against ensuring minimum levels of performance.

OSHA Issues Deadlines for Electronic Reporting of Injuries and Illness
OSHA issued its official
deadlines for tracking workplace injuries and illnesses. Employers
in high-risk industries such as roofing, are required to electronically submit their 2016
annual data from OSHA for 300A by Dec. 1.
"Some studies have shown that even a day or two of stubble can begin to reduce protection," NIOSH states in an entry posted Nov. 2 on its
Science Blog. "Research tells us that the
presence of facial hair under the sealing surface causes 20 to 1,000 times more leakage compared to clean-shaven individuals."
