With the unprecedented events taking place and lots of information being similar in both the N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center Newsletter and Alexander County 4-H Newsletter this month the newsletters will be combined.  
COVID-19 Most Recent Update

Updated March 30, 2020:  Things are changing daily, if not more than once a day.  
We continue to work with county and state health officials, as well as NC State and N.C. A&T State Universities, to monitor the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. To help prevent the spread of the virus, effective March 30th, 2020 the Alexander County Service Center where N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center is located is closed to the public until further notice and staff is working remotely.  All programs are postponed or will be provided online.   
 
Our staff are still available via email, phone and other technological means, and will continue to assist you to the best of their ability.  Find contact info and details regarding N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center operations on our website at alexander.ces.ncsu.edu.  There you will also find helpful resources at your fingertips.  
 
Please know that these changes are intended to protect the health and safety of our community while striving to provide the resources and services you need. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and act consistent with local, state and national recommendations.

4-H Update
  • April Club Meetings will be canceled.
  • Events are being canceled due to COVID-19 on the state and district levels.  4-H Congress and Citizenship Focus have been canceled, but they are looking at doing them virtually.  District Activity Day is looking to be done virtually too.  If you were wanting to do a presentation this year please email DJ Salyer at dj_salyer@ncsu.edu to make sure you get up-to-date information regarding these events.  
  • 4-H Summer Opportunities will not be held in May or early June. 
  • Make sure you are following us Facebook.  Lots of fun things are taking place:  4-H Embryology, NC 4-H is offering lots of virtual events and much more.  Here is the link:   4-H Alexander County Facebook

Pasture Weed Spotlight is Buttercup. It is not blooming yet but soon you will see a sea of yellow flowers in the pasture. Weeds compete with grass for space, sunlight and nutrients. Cows do not eat buttercup. NOW is the time to control this weed while it is in it's vegetative stage. Don't wait until it is blooming to spray herbicide. Your money will be better spent spraying early!
