Important Information about School Closure, Faith and Support
Dear Serra Families,

Since our communication Wednesday in Spotlight, the Health Officer for the County of San Mateo has ordered school closure through May 1.  As a result, we will continue distance through this time frame. We will continue to update you as information becomes available.

In this prolonged school closure, we asked our Campus Minister, Billy Byrnes, to address some of the ways that Campus Ministry is supporting our students. His response:

We know that during these challenging times it is hard to reconcile our faith with what is happening around us each day. It is important that we continue to process what is going on, seek ways to deepen our faith, and find ways to come together and support each other. As a Catholic Christian community, we are called to put our trust in God and turn to prayer.
  • Resources for prayer, spiritual nourishment, and spaces for reflection (Click  HERE ) .
  • Daily prayer on the Serra Covid-19 site. Reflections led by a member of the Campus Ministry team will be posted each day.  Our hope is that hearing a brief reflection or guided mediation in a familiar voice can be helpful while we are away from campus.
  • Hosting weekly Activity Period - This Tuesday it will be a live Mass on Zoom led by our Chaplain, Father Michael Liliedahl.  Intentions and prayers can be submitted HERE.
  • Stations of the Cross - On Friday at noon, Fr. Liliedahl will lead the Stations of the Cross via Zoom from his parish, St. Catherine's ( https://zoom.us/j/577416599 ) .
  • Pastoral guidance or support - The Campus Ministry team is committed to walking the faith journey with our students.  Please reach out to any member of the team.
As we shared with the Encounter student leadership team last week, it is incredibly difficult to make sense of what is going on, to find spiritual answers amidst the uncertainty, and to find God present in our midst.  However, it is exactly in times like these that Jesus promised to walk alongside us and to be light in our darkness. As we continue through this season of Lent, let us remember that life is a mystery and to put our trust completely in the hands of God.

We are so grateful to our Campus Ministry team and our entire faculty and staff for their ongoing support of our students. Please look for Wednesday's Spotlight with continued communication.

Thank you,
