FCT presents 1776, The Musical

FAUQUIER COMMUNITY THEATRE
PROUDLY PRESENTS THE HISTORICAL MUSICAL "1776"
HEAR YE! HEAR YE! The Olde Towne Crier exclaims, "It is only 58 years and 10 months till the long-awaited Tricentennial of the founding of our new nation - the United States of America!" (Though some of us are still recovering from the Bicentennial celebrations!) Over 200 years ago in 1776, our founding forefathers penned (or should I say "quilled") the Declaration of Independence, publicly proclaiming America as a free and independent country, no longer under the reins, the auspices, or the tyrannical rule of Great Britain. Of course, we had to fight a little war known as the American Revolution to secure that independence completely, but the goal of America self-governing most likely would never have been actualized if it had not been for the 2nd Continental Congress and a certain document written by none other than Virginia's favorite son, Thomas Jefferson himself - the Declaration of Independence!!
All ye citizens of Fauquier County, Virginia, and its surrounds should hitch your horse up to your buggy and bring the entire family out to see the educational, entertaining, and very moving musical 1776! As Paul Revere well knows, "The British are coming! The British are coming!" So you should, too!!! Before all the good seats are sold out!!
Sitting in the Congress in Philadelphia from May to July of 1776, one cannot help but be amazed! Who knew that it could get this stinkin' hot or that there would be this many flies?! And why does Congress not have its own privy, for Providence's sake?! But once one gets past all that, the real amazement is looking around and seeing the most patriotic group of men ever to be assembled anywhere. Over there is John Adams (sitting by himself because he is obnoxious and disliked). On the other side of the room, that is Benjamin Franklin with his foot propped up; he claims it is because of the gout, but personally I think he injured it trying to escape quickly from a spurned female companion! Near Franklin, one can see the tall, copper-haired presence of Thomas Jefferson, who for some reason that I cannot quite figure out is "burning" to get home to his new bride. I also spy John Dickinson from Pennsylvania, Richard Henry Lee from Virginia, Edward Rutledge from South Carolina, and the Congressional President John Hancock up there practicing his signature! In total, all 13 original colonies are well represented. But do not take my word for it. Come see for yourself. Ye will be glad that ye did.

FCT could sure use the community's help. Please see below how YOU can help us! If you can help in anyway,
1. FCT is in need to BORROW some prop items:
A Gavel
Ladderback Style Chairs - up to 10
Bow Style Chairs - up to 4
Bench - not modern
Colonial style musket
ink wells
2.
We need 2-3 ladies who are willing to come to a few rehearsals in October and 6 performances in November (Nov. 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12) to do quick change dressing (peeling off clothes, etc) of actors for an upcoming show.
3. We are in desperate need of a storage place
for our props. (
garage, barn, back room of an office building, etc) The only requirement is that it has light and is weatherproof. We do not need outlets. It does not have to be climate controlled. We are a 501c3 organization and the space can be donated and used as a deduction off of your taxes as well as a few other perks that we can offer you.
4 FCT could still use 2-3 seamstresses who are willing to sew costumes during out 2016-2017 season. Please let us know if you might be available to donate a bit of time. The amount of time can be determined by you.

Synopsis
Edward Bloom has lived a full and fantastical life, populated by witches, giants, and mermaids, marked by true love that stops time in its tracks, and framed by heroics that push the limits of believability. His adult son, Will, is no longer amused by his father's fantastical tales, insisting on a rational rather than a fantastical account of one's life. When Edward's health declines, and Will learns that he and his wife, Josephine, will have a son of their own, Will decides to find out his father's "true" life story, once and for all. Big Fish is a heartfelt, powerful, and truly magical musical about fathers, sons, and the stories that we use to define our identities. With spine-tinglingly beautiful music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, and a funny, heartwarming book by John August, Big Fish is a magnificent "big fish" of a tale, itself - spectacular, fantastical, and overflowing with love.

Directors
FCT is looking for Directors to propose shows for our 2018-2019 Main Season.
FCT's season typically consists of 5 productions: a "classic" musical, a "contemporary" musical, a "classic" drama, comedy or mystery, and a more contemporary non-musical as well, with the fifth show selected to balance out the other four. Our December production is intended to be family-friendly and "fun for the holidays", although it does not have to be specifically a Christmas show.
We also seek directors who would like to work with our youth program. Our youth activities typically take place in June, July or August, but workshops could be scheduled at any time of the year. We are looking to schedule our Summer 2018 youth programs at this time, but suggestions for 2019 are also welcome.
You may submit as many proposals as you like; please be sure to mention any limitations as to time periods when you would not be available to do the show. Please don't delay in responding - our Artistic Committee will need to make decisions about the 2018-2019 season by the end of 2017! Our next meeting is on August 19th; you are welcome (and encouraged) to attend.
