Weekly Update - March 31, 2020
Good morning, LHE friends and families. We hope that you are staying safe, healthy, and (reasonably) sane.  If you haven't seen it yet, check out a fun video made by our LHE staff during this school closure. We miss you all!

Going on a Bear (and Flamingo) Hunt
During this time of home quarantine, communities are being invited to join in a neighborhood "bear hunt"! Put a stuffed bear, a picture of a bear, or a drawing of a bear in your front window so kids can spot them during their walks around the neighborhood!

And in addition to the bears...keep your eyes out for flamingos as you walk the neighborhood...a few of our flock **may** have ended up scattered about. How many can you find?

Resources available on the LHE Website
Check out the LHE School website for the latest news and folders with information and activities from staff, including activities from our PE, Art and Music teachers. Also, check out a document of resources put together by Mara Lim from our office. This includes lots of great online learning opportunities and suggestions.

Home Schooling Resources
Seattle Public Schools has provided  online activities during the school closure to assist with the continuation of learning. For students who do not have regular access to internet, the District will be providing aligned, printed activities at the 26 student meal distribution sites starting the week of March 23. These activities are not required nor will be graded.

Also launching this week are teaching videos on the SPS TV Channel and also online hereThese videos will feature Seattle Public Schools educators in short segments to support optional learning in a variety of subjects and grade levels.

Families are doing a great job of finding engaging and high-quality learning resources to support students. To help make your lives a little easier, SPS has curated new Learning Resource Webpages organized by grade (preschool, elementary, middle, and high school).  You can find sample daily home learning schedules, emotional support guidance, supplemental learning resources coordinated by the Curriculum and Instruction Department, and some of SPS's favorite online sites.

LHE families have also started a Google Document to track homeschooling resources and ideas to help us navigate these next several weeks. Please help add to this and share your ideas! You can find the document here. Questions? Email the equity group at [email protected]

Community Support
If you are in need of support of any kind during this shut-down, please fill out our Google spreadsheet so we can figure out to help.

The Seattle Council PTSA has also put together a form to ensure that all in our community are supported and have what they need during this difficult time. If you, or someone you know, is in need of support, consider filling out their form as well

Resources for School Lunch Services
If you depend on Seattle Public Schools for lunch services, or know someone who does, please check out the district's website on where and how to access free lunches during this closure. Thank you!

Childcare Resources
Parents with essential jobs or who are unable to stay home with their children during the Coronavirus shutdown should check out the district's resources page for childcare options. Select childcare facilities, including the YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club, are also offering services on a limited basis.

Read them with your kids for a 5-minute story or, for an enhanced experience, click on the links to awesome video clips.
