Pandemic EBT is Here!

Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) is a program to help families buy food for their children while schools are closed because of the COVID-19 crisis. Children who would normally be able to get free or reduced-price meals during the school year are eligible for P-EBT.

⭐ Getting P-EBT does not affect a family's eligibility for other nutrition services such as CalFresh, WIC, and meals being offered at schools and other community sites. P-EBT does not replace any of these programs.

⭐ P-EBT is available to eligible children regardless of immigration status. The Protecting Immigrant Families Coalition led by the National Immigration Law Center and the Center for Law and Social Policy report that P-EBT will not be considered in a public charge test .

SB 882 Passes 1st Committee with Unanimous Support

Thanks for the support!

Thanks to a strong and broad showing of support from stakeholders, SB 882 (Wiener) passed the Senate Human Services Committee today with a unanimous, bi-partisan vote on consent.

SB 882 would make it easier for eligible low-income Californians to sign up and stay connected to CalFresh, particularly older adults and people with disabilities. As the number of new CalFresh applications surges due to the economic downturn and spiking unemployment, now is the time to make permanent improvements to ease access to CalFresh.

Next, SB 882 is up for discussion in the Senate Appropriations Committee. Join us in asking the Committee to move the bill on to the Senate Floor!

CFPA Applauds House for Passing the HEROES Act

Key Food Access Priorities Included

CFPA commends Speaker Pelosi for her leadership on the HEROES Act and applauds members of congress for supporting the bill's passage in the House. The HEROES Act includes multiple relief provisions that are desperately needed to help Californians put food on the table now and after the immediate public emergency has passed. As the HEROES Act heads to the Senate for consideration, CFPA urges quick action and support for relief provisions that are equitable and inclusive, maximize access to food, and prepare for the long term effects of the COVID-19 crisis.
