It is a call to action for all consumers and everyone who has a stake in food to join the food revolution: a movement aimed at nurturing the adoption of healthier, more sustainable eating and drinking habits. Danone Institute North America, a not-for-profit established by Danone North America, recently announced the four winning teams of the One Planet. One Health. Initiative, a new grant program in which transdisciplinary teams from across the U.S. and Canada were challenged to design, implement and evaluate actionable community-based projects for sustainable food systems. Winners will each receive $20,000 in grant funds to further design and execute their projects.

As initially planned, the Congress will take place in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC. All registrations will be transferred to the new dates and all abstracts that have been accepted for presentation, planned side events and special sessions will remain in the programme. The early bird as well as the submission deadline for late breaker and COVID-19 abstracts have been extended to September 18. Extra sessions on SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 are being planned. This program is based on a competency framework that outlines essential competencies needed by laboratory leaders to build and direct sustainable national laboratory systems for disease detection, control and prevention in health systems. and responding to zoonoses.

Dr. Saif said veterinarians should be involved in all aspects of zoonotic infections, in concert with a one-health approach. “Veterinarians need to be part of identifying the animal reservoirs and the intermediate hosts for these diseases,” she said. “This may focus on wildlife medicine, such as understanding the habitats and diversity of bat species as reservoirs for coronaviruses and multiple other viruses.”………………… “Also, more veterinarians should be working with other researchers to develop the most appropriate animal models for these diseases since we cannot test antivirals or vaccines without an animal model that reproduces the human disease and responses." https://tinyurl.com/vxo333u

Kigali, Rwanda. Combined U.S. Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa’s 411th Civil Affairs Functional Specialty Team (CA FXST) recently used the One Health concept to conduct a week-long assessment, Feb. 16-22, of veterinary services and capabilities found in Rwanda. The assessment involved engagements with various agencies including the U.S. Embassy in Rwanda, USAID, the Rwandan Defense Force and local veterinarians.
