KDS Response to Coronavirus Pandemic
As a safety precaution to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus in our community, effective March 16 and until further notice, Kate Duncan Smith DAR School and all its facilities are closed to the public. The health and safety our students and school employees are of utmost importance, and we are taking all necessary precautions.

2020 KDS Awards Day and Graduation
KDS Senior Awards Day and Graduation is scheduled for May 15 and 16. Please make plans to join us as we celebrate our graduates and their accomplishments.

ASDAR State Conference
The Alabama Society Daughters of the American Revolution continues to champion the cause of patriotic education with its avid support of KDS. During the 122nd Alabama Society DAR Conference in Auburn on March 6-8, that tradition of support certainly showed.

Second Graders Celebrate President's Day with DAR Friends
Members of the Twickenham Town Chapter, NSDAR, recently visited KDS to celebrate Presidents’ Day with the second graders of Kandi Morrison’s class.

KDS 8th Graders Explore the
World of Work
One hundred KDS Middle School 8 th graders attended the North Alabama Worlds of Work event on February 25 th at Albertville High School. More than 50 representatives of industry and education from all over Marshall County hosted exhibits to demonstrate to students careers available in North Alabama.

KDS Beta Club Sponsors
Blood Drive
The KDS High School Beta Club sponsored a successful LifeSouth blood drive on Tuesday, March 10 th , with students signing up to fill all 54 time slots, and with 15 additional students, teachers, and community members dropping in to also donate. This is a twice-yearly community service project undertaken by Beta Club to give KDS students the opportunity to give back to their community. Well done, Patriots!
KDS 7th Graders Discover the
Art of Dissection
After completing a unit of study of the human body, KDS 7 th graders were excited to dissect frogs to observe the similarities between the organs of humans and frogs. They spent time reviewing lab procedures and what would be expected when they get to more advanced high school science courses. They also learned procedures to properly dissect the specimen without damaging the organs inside. KDS science teacher, Stephanie Guffey said, “The students loved the opportunity to actually dissect something. They got so excited too when they were able to find the organs and identify them correctly!”
