I hope all of you are safe and well. I'm writing to share more information regarding school closures. Today, with extensive consultation and support of the Sacramento County Department of Public Health (SCPH), all 13 local school districts and the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) are extending the period of school closures through May 1, 2020, to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
We know students and staff were hoping to be back in school after Spring Break. That was our wish, too. However, protecting the health and safety of our Twin Rivers school community is paramount.
Therefore, our schools will reopen as soon as the Governor and the Department of Public Health give direction that it is safe to do so.
We will continue to monitor all developments. Hopefully, we'll have additional guidance about the path forward in the next couple of weeks. Please know we will continue to support students, families and the community.
Our commitment is to make every day count for our students under these extremely difficult and challenging circumstances. Twin Rivers has a strong team in place working on plans to continue education services throughout the closure period. We have launched Phase 1 of continued learning with a Continued Learning website for students and families, with links to educational websites and our core curriculum that can be accessed voluntarily. While these resources are not designed to replace or replicate classroom instruction, they will help keep students engaged in learning until we launch our Distance Learning plan after Spring Break.
You will hear more next week about the distribution of Chromebooks for students. Also, during this extended closure, we will continue our Grab-and-Go meals program for students. Visit the Twin Rivers Nutrition Services website to see the list of sites where you can pick up meals.
We know there's a lot of anxiety and uncertainty right now. We want all of you to know that our unwavering commitment to the education of all students will never change, no matter the circumstances.
