California Youth Empowerment Network is a Program of MHAC

The measures that have been taken in response to COVID-19 have drasticallychanged  the way we engage and interact with the communities that hold us together. But this doesn't  mean that our responsibilities to these communities are gone, or that we can't still promote and advocate for the health and well-being of the people within them. If anything, this situation has revealed the importance of strengthening our links to our community and creating connections with those around us. Most importantly, remember that the health of your community starts with  your own safety and well being. If you are struggling, know that there are resources available to  you, as well as an entire community of people behind you to offer support and aid during these  trying times.  Resources

And remember, even if social distancing can seem lonely at times, you are never  alone. Be safe, be kind, and continue to remind yourself that your voice has the power to create  change.

Yours in community,

Zofia Trexler
CAYEN Co-President

Here's the info: Teens (14-18) *Meets every Friday from 4-5 pm*
This is an open forum aimed at providing a space for teens to sort through life's challenges, learn through sharing, and establish a peer support system. This group seeks to meet youth where they are at - participants will be empowered to choose discussion topics relevant to their life/reality - from the stress of quarantine to healthy relationships, lets tackle it together. The group will run via Zoom, with facilitators from our Behavioral Health department. Join us as we unpack a variety of issues in a safe space, at a safe distance. Groups will be Native-focused but are open to the community at-large. Registration is required in order to access Zoom links.

Finding Causes and Treating Depression in Teenagers
Join a Research Study: Enrolling Nationally from Around the Country

To find out if you qualify, email NIMH or call 1-301-827-1350 [TTY: 1-866-411-1010].

This research study seeks to find causes and treatments of depression in teenagers. The study goals are to increase our knowledge of treatments for depression and understand how the brain changes when teenagers have depression. The study will also compare teenagers with depression to those without mental health diagnoses as they grow up.

The study is recruiting participants ages 11-17 who are depressed. They must have a pediatrician or other medical provider, be medically healthy, and able to perform research tasks. They may not currently be hospitalized, psychotic or actively suicidal. Teenagers with depression are eligible even if they are taking medication.

Virtual Events

The Best Online Music Events to Keep You Dancing at Home
Collection by Eventbrite

In times like these, many of us rely on music for therapy, inspiration, and to escape reality. Physical concerts may be on hold, but that's not stopping artists from performing music for their fans. Live-streamed concerts, virtual dance parties, vocal competitions, and music-making classes prove that the music never stops - even when it moves online.
