Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.
Psalm 96:11-12
Alleluia! We are still celebrating the Great Fifty Days of Easter! Christ our Lord is risen. Alleluia!
The “feeling tone” of Psalm 96 resonates with the joy of Easter and the beauty of spring as everything bursts forth with new life. All creation rejoices in the glory of God!
In the midst of our present situation, the extravagance of foliage bursting into leaf and bloom gives a glimpse of the glory of God’s creation, as well as a reminder that He is active in the world, that He is in control, that He loves and cares for us.
Today’s Musical Moment features one of my favorite keyboard pieces from the Elizabethan era, “The Leaves bee Greene” by William Inglot, an English composer who was a Chorister, Lay Clerk, and Organist at Norwich Cathedral.
