Finance Team Update
A Quick Reminder about Cheque Payments.
If you usually pay Share with mailed cheques, please be aware that you can now send them in to the Diocesan Office. We are able to collect mail and can process them as usual.

Return of Parish Finance
We have been informed that the deadline for submitting the Return of Parish Finance has been extended to 31 July 2020. You do not need to have held your APCM to submit the return and, whilst it is preferable for the accounts to have been examined before submission, it is preferred the data is submitted on time rather than wait for the independent examination to be completed. Finally, the PCC should approve the accounts on which the returns are based but to avoid delay caused by the lockdown, the accounts can be approved at an online meeting of the PCC or be recommended for approval by the Finance or Standing Committee.

An Update on Gift Aid Small Donation Scheme & HMRC
Following concerns over whether multiple cash donations saved up in envelopes during weeks of lockdown would still be eligible for GASDS claims, HMRC have now offered guidance on the matter. HMRC says " Where it is the case, for example, of separate donations being given in a single envelope, then if the church/charity official is happy these are clearly separate 'small donations' (and clearly stated as such) then they will be eligible for GASDS, as is the case where separate envelopes are used". Read the guidance article here or on the Parish Resources website.

Could Your Church be eligible for a Government Grant of £10k or £25k?

In Money for Mission Special edition 4  we reported that some churches may be eligible to claim either £10k via their local authority from the  Small Business Grant Fund or as much as £25k from the Retail,Hospitality & Leisure Grant Fund; both of which form part of the  UK Government's financial measures in response to Coronavirus. Eligibility depends on being in receipt of a discounted rates bill by April 2020. Churches with cafes and separate church halls seem most likely to fall into this category and are advised to contact their local authority to check their eligibility for the grants.
We are now delighted to report that The Eldwick Church, Bingley, has indeed been successful in claiming a Small Business Grant of £10k following the closure of their Link Cafe during the Coronavirus lockdown resulting in loss of income. Read more about their story  here.

Please do continue to let us know if your church is successful in claiming either of these grants

HOW TO SET UP ONLINE GIVING FOR YOUR CHURCH

The National Giving Team have continued to create really helpful resources to support all Parishes during the lockdown period; especially around how churches can receive online donations. There's never been a better time to set up an online giving account for your church so I hope the ideas and guidance below can help you to get started.

1. Watch the "Receiving Donations Online" Webinar - part of the CofE's Labs Learning series of free webinars, this one is a must watch for all churches who want to learn how to kick- start their ability to receive online donations. Already immensely popular this webinar is being repeated on June 10th and 18th. To register your place visit link  Receiving Online Donations.  If you are unable to attend these dates you can watch an earlier  recording of this webinar at link   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnRosnLvu6g&feature=youtu.be

The  CofE Labs Learning series includes free webinars on a number of other helpful topics to take place over the summer months. Follow this link to find out more and to register for their webinars.

2. Learn How to Set up Your Church's Online Giving Account - The National Giving Team have produced a video animation demonstrating exactly how to set up an online giving account for your church through Parish Buying with SumUp. Parish Buying are recommending SumUp as the preferred online giving provider for the CofE  as they have negotiated an excellent transaction rate per donation of only 1.95%  which they believe to be the lowest on the market. The ArchBishop's council have also funded premier membership of SumUp for churches until the end of this year allowing them to also claim Gift Aid on any donations.
Watch the video animation below at  https://vimeo.com/showcase/7154605

3. A dd a Donations Page & Button to your A Church Near You homepage.
All CofE churches have a homepage on A Church Near You. To find out how to access your church's homepage ask your vicar who should have all the details or visit this link for more information on how to set up your church account on ACNY. Once you have set up your Online Giving account (as shown in video above) you can then customise your ACNY homepage with a Donations page and Donate button. There are two new videos available to explain how you can do this :
  • Add a Donations page to your ACNY homepage - find out how here.
  • Add a Donate Now button to your ACNY homepage - watch video here
4. How to Encourage Online Giving
As well as customising your ACNY page as described above there are a whole host of other ways that you can encourage and promote giving online to your church. Take a look at the Encouraging Giving Online page on the Parish Resources website for more ideas on how to use social media as a tool.

5. Church of England's Giving Video Animation
A short animation for churches to use during virtual services and more widely online to encourage giving has also been produced. There are a couple of versions of different lengths for use on social media too. The video talks about the need for people to give and asks those that can give at this time to do so. We hope that this will be really useful for churches less confident talking about giving and an added bonus for those who are already doing lots of great things. You can customise this video with your church details on your church's ACNY homepage and also on  social media, church websites and anywhere else your church has an online presence.
To customise the video with your church details and online giving page ACNY editors should log in find the video in the ACNY video generator. Log in  here
Watch the Giving Video below by visiting Parish Resources here or the  National Giving Team's vimeo channel at  https://vimeo.com/411392278

6. Compare Online Giving Providers - although Parish Buying recommend setting up an Online Giving Account using SumUp there are a number of other providers to choose from. Parish Resources provides helpful guidance on what to consider when selecting an online giving provider at Receiving Online Donations  and also offers a comprehensive list  of providers with details of their transaction rates enabling you to compare them.

7. Need A Charity Certificate? -  when registering for online and card based giving you are likely to be asked to provide proof of your charity status. This presents a problem for most churches who are "exempted charities" and therefore not registered with the Charity Commission. The good news however is that y ou can now download a PDF from your A Church Near You account that includes your church name, address and church code which can be used as proof of charity status. To download your certificate first log in to your ACNY account, click the "More information" tab on the left hand menu and scroll down to "Download Certificate" where you can add in your church details and then download the certificate.

8. Step by Step Guides to Online Giving from Data Developments - Data Developments have also produced some step by step guides to help you set up Online Giving for your church using Braintree as the online giving provider. The guides below will take you through the process of setting up an account with Braintree allowing you then to create a "giving button" on your A Church Near You homepage or church website.
