CREATING PARTNERSHIPS WITH OUR FRIENDS
FROM THE NORTH

When you think of regional delegations looking for business opportunities elsewhere, you may think of trade missions overseas. This isn’t that.

The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce has announced an in-state study mission September 26-27 in Tacoma, to explore what ideal partnership looks like with our neighbors. "With over 10,000 individuals moving to Tacoma in the last eight years and more than $1 billion being invested in their downtown infrastructure, Tacoma is a force to be reckoned with."

A MEMO TO NEWLY-APPOINTED WASHINGTON ST. HOUSE SPEAKER
Rep. Laurie Jinkins’ election by her peers to serve as the next speaker of the Washington State House is a big deal, historically speaking, for several reasons. She’s the first woman to hold the post. The first “out” lesbian to attain such high stature in the Legislature. The first speaker to possess such an eye-popping collection of funky, decorative socks.

LAST CHANCE FOR EARLY BIRD PRICING, ENDS THIS WEEK!
The Chamber is hosting Aspire, an intercity conference to develop regional leadership partners, with opportunities to learn and share best practices, innovation, and ideas.

HOUSING PROJECT MADE ACCESSIBLE TO MORE BUYERS
When news broke last year of a new housing development in Tacoma with homes priced below $300,000, interest was swift.

The Preserve, the neighborhood local developers Green Harbor Communities is building on land near Charlotte’s Blueberry Park, eventually will be home to 73 single-family homes. The site was formerly owned by the Tacoma Public Schools.

ADVANCING THE AEROSPACE AND MANUFACTURING WORKFORCE
Goodwill and their training partner AJAC (Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee) debuted the new 12-week program at their high-tech distance learning theater in Tacoma. Thanks to distance learning technology at their Tacoma education campus, Goodwill and AJAC can simulcast to mirror training sites at Longview and Yakima education centers with each classroom also having their own work stations and instructor support.

PROTECTING OUR NATION: CYBERSECURITY
Brig. Gen. Jeremy C. Horn, Director of Joint Forces, Washington National Guard, will be updating the South Sound business community about cybersecurity and the state of affairs since September 11, 2001.

STRENGTHENING FAMILIES IN THE SOUTH SOUND
Accessing comprehensive and caring perinatal services can be difficult. In the time leading up to and following the birth of a baby, mothers face a wide host of potential obstacles that are easier navigated with active support from others.

In many places, however, an active and accessible support network for expecting and new families has yet to be established. A new business called  Fern + Foster  will open in September in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood to fill that gap.

SUPPORT CLEANER FUEL IN TACOMA
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency recently completed a review of the Tacoma Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility Notice of Construction Application (NOC 11386) and has made a preliminary determination that the proposal meets all the requirements and should be approved.

The Clean Air Agency's public hearing is Tuesday, August 27 from 2-5 p.m. and 6:30-10 p.m. at the Rialto Theater, 310 S. 9th St., Tacoma. We expect a large turnout of people who are misinformed about the benefits of LNG, and we need your voices to talk about the benefits of the LNG project.

We ask that you also consider submitting a written comment  to the Clean Air Agency in support of the LNG project.  The deadline for written comments is Sept 9, 2019.
