Pete Stauber '90 announced he will challenge incumbent Rep. Rick Nolan for the 8th District Congressional seat in Minnesota. He has served as a lieutenant and West Area commander with the Duluth Police Department for the past 22 years, is the founder of "Stauber Brothers' Military Heroes Hockey Camp" and president of Law Enforcement Labor Services Local 363.

Carrie Fancett Pagels Ph.D. '78, is returning to the U.P. to talk about her latest book
"My Heart Belongs to Mackinac: Maude's Mooring," a Romantic Times Top Pick.
She will be at Bayliss Public Library on July 27 at 7pm.

Jamil Czubenko '06 Battalion chief of Howell Area Fire Department becomes 4th Howell firefighter to complete prestigious National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer program.  

STUDENT KUDOS

LSSU Chemistry students
recently swept the top 3 awards for undergraduate posters at the American Chemical Society meeting recently held at Northern Michigan University. Tyler Wall, Danielle Webber, and Christina Magyar presented their research and were recognized by a panel of professional chemists for their work in organic and biochemistry related projects. 
 
Math/CS student Brooke Leverton participated in a statistics and computer
programming workshop in North Carolina. The workshop was organized by The Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) and focused on a few astronomical fields in mathematics. Brooke's group in particular took raw data from light curves and created a program for classification of light curves.
