Principal's Message
October 27, 2017
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
As the year progresses, we see the many expressions of the enriched program experienced by our students. If you were able to attend OLQP Open House, you saw products that are the result of hands-on, experiential learning, writing, and art. The OLQP Open House was a way to invite you into your child's world of learning. What we do is on-going.  Classes participate in field trips to see robotics-in- action, fine arts presentations, and to perform at local events. Students learn from guest speakers. In STREAM, students are involved in investigating, measuring, creating, and problem solving. In one project, students solved structural engineering challenges. In computer lab, students are using a program to create art.  Middle school students are writing stories to read to the little ones. Saint projects and science fair projects are in the works. SAINTS athletes made it to the play-offs in both soccer and volleyball.
October is known as the month of the Rosary. To honor Blessed Mother, the middle school students led the Living Rosary. This beautiful prayer service is an annual event. The students pray with particular reverence and care. The lower elementary students are encircled by the middle school students who hold candles, lit one-by-one as the prayers are offered. This reminds us that Blessed Mother wraps her mantle around each of us when we pray the Rosary all the while drawing us closer and closer to Jesus.
The students and staff are doing amazing work here every day to "Instill Knowledge" and "Inspire Faith." Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
Counting our Blessings...

BASF Robotics Field Trip
Before today I thought robots that could climb walls would be invented in the future.  They have many applications. They can filter water, inspect pipes, go into dangerous places, and inspect from afar.
There are three ways that robots can climb walls: ferromagnetics, vacuum suction, and suction cups. Magnets are the go-to for climbing robots. They can go around curves that are both convex and concave. They don't take much power to run and are easy to make but must attach to a steel surface. Vacuum robots can attach to surfaces other than steel.  Suction cups also use vacuums but in a different way. They have weak seals that are smooth where they attach to the wall and glide.
The crawler robot functioned like an inchworm. We saw an underwater robot that filtered dirty water. These innovations were most interesting. The potential for providing clean water to people who would not otherwise have access could be a future application.
The OLQP robotics students learned a lot of practical uses for robotics and stimulated creative minds for future application! Thanks to Dr. Whitmarsh and our BASF partners for making this happen!

News You Can Use....
Renweb is Here
The Renweb launch is an incremental work in progress. The admin team worked through glitches and challenges to get an almost perfect report card printed. Work with the trial group of parents went well so all parents have now been invited to go on-line. We are only "scratching the surface" of what is possible with this platform. The next components are lesson plans for teachers and cafeteria accounts for families. We are all learning this together so please let us know if you have questions or concerns. If we don't know, we will work together to find the answers!

Morning Extended Day Drop Off at Gym
Please note that if you drop off for morning extended day care, the doors will be locked. Please use the bell for admission.  An employee will be in the foyer. This is being done to increase campus security. Thank you for your cooperation.

All Saints Day
Believe it or not, All Saints Day is next week! For new families who may not know what this looks like, please be advised that it is a big day at OLQP! Students dress up like a saint. Costumes can be simple or elaborate. The important thing is that the students know the life of the saint they are dressing as. This is like Biography Day with a focus on people in the Church who have earned the honored title of "saint."  Students may wear their uniforms under their costumes so they can change after Mass. Parents are welcome to join us. Please email your child's homeroom teacher if you have any questions.
