Featured Horse of the Week... Lilly
|
Lilly is a 27-year-old Haflinger Mare, who has been at RTT since 2017. At just under 14 hands, Lilly is technically a pony, but her sturdy build and broad back may make her appear a little bigger than she actually is. You may know Lilly as the 'talkative' horse at RTT - here's a quick
video
of her saying 'hi'!

Lilly shares thoughts her with you...
This week it’s MY turn! You all must know me because I am the chattiest horse at RTT. Whenever I see someone walking out of the barn, I am pretty sure they are coming to feed or visit with me, so I call out to them. I think that if there were an award for “Friendliest Horse on the Farm,” I would definitely get it, because I am not only talkative but I will always be your best friend. My beautiful golden coat and bright-eyed look make me seem like a very young horse; the truth is, I have been around for 27 years! I miss you all and can’t wait until you can come back to the farm and visit me.

Horse Play!
Watch this video to see how Otis and Flynn play with each other and learn about horse communication. Horses only play when they are totally comfortable and they make sure to be careful - even though sometimes it doesn't look like it!

Maureen is a faithful barn volunteer of a couple of years now. In addition to her passion for horses (and barn work!), she and her husband, Lou, play in a band, you might have seen Maureen share some of their music in our private facebook group!
A message from Maureen,
During quarantine my husband and I have been writing and playing music from home with the other members of our band. We are called "The Saccarappa Boys". We play at a lot of assisted living centers, (Maine Vet's Home is one of them!), we also play farmer's markets, contradances, country dances, fairs, private parties, and certain night spots, the latest being Lenny's down the road. We have a lot of fun, and like to see our audiences have fun, too!
We hope you enjoy this song called 'Quarantine'!

Living not far down the road from RTT for many years, I was aware of the farm, but never really knew much about what they did here. I was a caretaker for two donkeys for two years, and when the owner didn't want them anymore and gave them away I was devastated. So, one day I visited the farm to ask about volunteering... and I fell in love with this place! Every Friday when I walk in for my duties, the smell of the hay, the shavings, the manure, and the horses flood my senses and I am so happy to be here. And, one day while I was in the barn, a school bus arrived and two little boys got out. When they saw me, they exclaimed "We're here to see the horses!" Their little faces were literally beaming with joy. I replied enthusiastically, "And they will be so happy to see YOU!" It was then that I realized what RTT is all about!
