Register your Out-of-School Time Program for a chance to win an iPad

We need your help to make the North Dakota Afterschool Database complete! Register your Out-of-School Time Program by submitting this form. Participants who register their program site by September 30th will have the chance to win an iPad valued at $250!

Programs eligible for being a part of the database include those that serve youth PreK-12 before school, after school, summers, weekends, and during school breaks. Programs include organized, regularly scheduled activities in a structured, supervised environment and include an educational or enrichment activity. They can take place in schools, school-age childcare centers, community based organizations, universities, libraries, museums, camps, and other locations.

The database will be the first to provide a complete picture of afterschool across ND, be a tool for programs, educators, parents, policymakers, and the community. Along with the map, the Network will publish a "State of Afterschool in ND" report. The publication will have data, infographics, and legislative district profiles that you can use to share the benefits and needs of afterschool to your legislators, policymakers, and funders.

Preliminary map results will be unveiled at a Lights on Afterschool event in October 2019.

Afterschool Funding

Afterschool for All Challenge held June 12

The ND Afterschool Network joined advocates from 41 other states on Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress and encourage support of federal afterschool funding.  More than 200 afterschool staff, community leaders, educators and youth from around the nation joined as part of the Afterschool for All Challenge, organized by Afterschool Alliance.

Network Lead Kristin Knorr met with Senator John Hoeven and staffers from the offices of Senator Kevin Cramer and Representative Kelly Armstrong to urge the rejection of the Trump administration's proposal to end federal afterschool funding. Discussions included supporting 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC), Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG) and the Child Nutrition Act.

In ND, 9,665 students were served through 21CCLC funding last year and an average of 684 school-age children are served each month through CCDBG subsidies. With the House proposing a $100 million increase in 21CCLC funding nationwide, this could provide even more funding to support students in North Dakota.

The meetings on Capitol Hill are over, but there are still ample opportunities for afterschool advocates. The Network is currently working with the offices of our Congressmen to arrange site visits while they are home this August. Find tips to host a successful site visit and notify Kristin Knorr if your site is interested in being a host site for our Congressmen.
