Greetings from the Harraseeket Inn!  Summertime is speeding by at warp speed and we hope you're enjoying every precious moment of it.  It's been busy here at the inn! Back-to- school sales are in high gear in Freeport and to that end we're offering a special room rate to help parents stock up on school clothes for the kids. For those who don't have to do that anymore, or never did, why not play hooky for a few days and splurge on yourself for a change? The kids'll be back in school, the crowds will be gone, the pace will be more relaxed and the weather will still be glorious.
Harraseeket Inn's Back to School Special!

We're offering  25% off our room rates from 8/19 until 11/1, Sunday through Thursday only . There's limited availability at this special rate so call soon for reservations and speak to one of our front desk staff.  You won't get a computerized recording, you'll get a real person and a friendly voice.  Give us a call at 1-800-342-6423. We look forward to helping you plan your special Maine getaway!

  Big News!

Chip and Jen on their special day
We have some very exciting news to share!  Last month my brother Chip, who's general manager here at the inn, got married to his long time sweetheart Jen (who truly is one sweetheart of a gal) at a small family ceremony held at Leen's Lodge way downeast in Grand Lake Stream. Chip really likes to fish and this is a very special place for the both of them. The weather was perfect for the occasion and all who attended had a blast, even if they didn't like to fish!

This weekend my niece Jackie, who's a sales associate at the Harraseeket, is getting married right here at the inn to none other than Dave Duda, our former (and still very much missed) head chef in the Broad Arrow Tavern.  Jackie couldn't have asked for a more perfect venue (or a more perfect guy) for her wedding day, and she's an expert wedding planner so she should know.
We wish both couples many, many years of happiness together!

And now for some some bittersweet news; Beverly Hagar, our afternoon  "Tea Embassador", is departing us to rediscover America with her cousin in a brand spanking new travel camper.  This will be a grand adventure for the two of them and we couldn't be happier for her. Bev's been a part of our family for many years.  She cared for my grandmother when she had dementia and, in addition to her hosting afternoon tea, she's been a wonderful friend and companion to my own mom as she struggles with memory loss.  We'll miss Bev like crazy but she's promised to keep in touch while she's on the road.  We wish her safe travels and many wonderful experiences on her journey.  Afternoon tea won't be the same without her warm, beautiful smile and we'll miss her much appreciated compassion and understanding during tough times with my mom.  Bev's been our Rock of Gilbraltar and she's already achieved sainthood in my book. Now she's now about to become our "Travel Embassador"!
Bon Voyage, Bev.  We're going to miss you something wicked!

And now for August's Trivia question. I won't promise it's an easy one, since last month's puffin question wasn't so easy after all.  Most of you got it right but there WAS an awful lot of conflicting info out there.  One thing's for certain, if you've always wanted to experience sea sickness while seeking the elusive puffin, your best bet is the boat trip to Machias Seal Island, or so several respondents informed me from personal experience.  Moving on, here's this month's trivia question:  In the below photo, what does that round symbol in the upper left hand corner beneath "Broad" and next to the plate full of yummy Broad Arrow luncheon buffet food stand for? (It has a "G" and an "R" separated by an upward pointing arrow.) If you don't know or can't google it, come share a meal with us and study the information on the place mat while you're eating.  All correct replies win a voucher worth $5. toward food or lodging on your next visit.  You may redeem up to 12 vouchers in one visit per room, a $60. value.  One reply per household please.  To respond to the trivia, simply reply to this newsletter.  Be patient with my own replies, I just returned from Labrador and am having some trouble readjusting to civilization!

Good luck, enjoy the rest of your summer and we hope to see you soon!
Warm regards,
Penny Gray
