Dear Lovejoy Community:
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to share that Scott Christiansen is stepping down from the Board of Trustees effective August 12. I have had the privilege of working along-side Scott as officers on the Board, and as Trustees, during Scott’s entire 7 years of dedication to the Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees and community. Scott has been a steady, knowledgeable, and passionate leader with a heart for our students, employees, and community throughout his tenure of service. Scott’s intellectual curiosity, depth of school knowledge, legal expertise, opinions and common sense approach to issues are going to be missed.
To quote Scott,
“I ran for school board to use my skills as an engineer and lawyer to contribute to a growing district that is creating an exceptional experience for all kids. I believe Lovejoy is on the right path with its challenging academic programs and broad offerings of extracurricular activities. If we can push all of our children to reach their potential, in a safe environment, then we have accomplished our ultimate goal.”
Scott’s dedication and knowledge throughout the challenges of this last spring, plus vetting, selection, and hiring of Dr. Goddard as our new Superintendent has been important to him in staying on over the past several months. We are sincerely appreciative of his devotion and competencies as a Trustee for Lovejoy ISD.
The Board will accept the resignation at our meeting on August 12 and deliberate next steps for replacing this role. In the case of early resignation, the district can either pursue a district-paid special election in November or embark on an equitable vetting process to appoint an individual to assume the role sooner. An appointed board member’s term would run until May 2020 where they would then need to file and run for election in May 2020 and again in May 2021 to complete the remainder of Scott Christiansen’s term.
Again, with sincere gratitude, we say
“Thank You”
to Scott Christiansen for 7 years of service to Lovejoy ISD as Trustee, and we wish him the very best in all future endeavors.
